LAKE OROVILLE / THERMALITO AFTERBAY
Bidwell Canyon Ramp Opens
OROVILLE – Lake Oroville rose nearly 30 feet in a week , due to the bomb cyclone that hit Northern California on October 24-25 , although flows into the lake have gone down since then . The big news is that Bidwell Canyon ’ s Stage III concrete boat ramp is now open to boaters . The single-lane gravel boat ramp at Oroville Dam ’ s Spillway Boat Ramp area will continue to be open as conditions permit . Boaters on the lake are advised to be aware of unexpected shallow water , obstruction hazards , and floating debris . For information about current launching conditions , call the Lake Oroville Visitor Center at ( 530 ) 538- 2200 . The lake is currently holding 1,036,263 acre feet of water , 29 percent of capacity and 58 percent of average . The lake elevation is 669.44 feet above sea level . Bass anglers are catching lots of spotted bass while fishing reaction baits including crankbaits , spinnerbaits and umbrella rigs . Drop shot rigs and other finesses presentations are also producing bass . Very few anglers have been trying for landlocked king salmon lately on the lake . Boaters can also target largemouth bass and landlocked steelhead in the Thermalito Afterbay , but fishing reports there have been few and far between lately .
