well ,” reported Jim Reid at Ken ’ s Sporting Goods .
“ The reservoir is nearly full . Lots of anglers trolling with Thomas Buoyants , Rapalas , crawlers and Tasmanian Devils have been doing very well , bait anglers have been doing well over near Rainbow Point and near the inlets with crawlers , Mice Tails , pinched crawlers and PowerBait . You can now launch from both the “ Bathtub ” ramp and the Mono County public ramp ,” said Reid .
“ The Twins have been a little tough with all the cold snow melt water dumping into them but we are getting some pretty good reports here and there from some anglers . There seems to be a pretty good number of nice rainbows showing up in the 2 to 6 pound range as well as some nice young browns in the 1 to 2 pound range as well ,” he stated .
“ I think as the water warms up over the next couple weeks the fishing should just keep getting better and better up there ! Lures and bait to try include PowerBait , pinched crawlers , and nightcrawlers , Speedy Shiners , Thomas Buoyants and Rapalas . Fly anglers are using matukas , seal buggers , Twin Lakes Specials , soft hackles , zug bugs and pheasant tails ,” disclosed Reid .
“ Little Virginia has started to kick out some fish this past week , mostly smaller fish , but there some nice hold-over fish up to around 5 pounds are being caught . Big Virginia still has a good amount of ice on it , but there is some fishable areas , the ice is melting fast so it should be wide open very soon . Trumbull is icefree and has been fishing pretty good for some nice brookies and rainbows . I don ’ t think the Trumbull campground is open yet so you ’ ll have to walk in to get there ,” concluded Reid .

Spicer Reservoir Delivers Quality Rainbows
ARNOLD – The road to Spicer Reservoir , in the Highway 4 Corridor above Arnold opened on June 28 , while Ebbetts Pass opened two days later .
Bank fishermen have reported catching beautiful rainbows in the 12 to 18 inch range while using flies and spinners in the Hobart Creek inlet of the Spicer . The fish at the reservoir are either wild or planted as fingerlings by the CDFW .
“ The lake is full and fishing is awesome ,” said Brandon Reynolds of Ebbetts Pass Sporting Goods . “ May flies are the top dry fly patterns , while the best

Shore anglers can also hook the trout while tossing out Kastmasters , garlic PowerBait and garlic Power Eggs in an array of colors , and nightcrawlers . Trolling from a boat should also be productive with spoons , spinners and night crawlers behind dodgers . One angler caught his limit with nightcrawler behind a in hour .
Lake Alpine recently thawed and the CDFW made their first plant of the season with week of June 19 . Many anglers have reported catching limits of rainbows to 18 inches while using a variety of methods .
Fly fishermen should try woolly buggers , sparrow nymphs and bead head nymphs , while spin fishermen should employ PowerBait and nightcrawlers .
Other local trout options include White Pines Reservoir and the North Fork of the Stanislaus . More information : 209-795-1686 .

Striped Bass Action Tapers Off
YUBA CITY - Striper fishing has tapered off with combined releases of only 1100 cfs below the Thermalito Afterbay Outlet , but releases from Oroville Dam went up to 10,000 cfs on July 5 .
“ I ’ m hoping that the increased releases will bring the salmon up the river ,” said Bob Boucke of Johnson ’ s Bait and Tackle . The salmon season will open below the outlet on July 16 , 2017 .
Anglers are catching stripers , including lots of shakers and some keepers . Fishermen are picking up fish on plastic worms , swimbaits , pileworms and sardines below Shanghai Bend and at Boyd ’ s Pump .
“ The shad fishing has not been very good on the Feather this season , but anglers are still hooking shad on the Yuba River below Daguerre Point Dam ,” added Boucke .

“ If you are coming to the lake on a weekend , plan to arrive early in the day ,” the Folsom Lake Marina advised . “ Parking is very limited because of the high water and on weekends all entrances will probably close . A State Pass allows for free entrance into the park , but only if there is parking available .”
“ Be sure to bring a lot of patience when you come to the lake . We are expecting our ramps to be very busy and lots of people out enjoying Folsom Lake . Debris is still on the lake and boater need to be very careful . Launching can be a problem , as the driftwood is everywhere ,” the marina staff added .
LOS VAQUEROS RESERVOIR
Trout Lead Summer Angling Parade
LIVERMORE – Los Vaqueros Reservoir has been mainly the domain of bank anglers lately , with heavy winds keeping rental boaters lately . “ Today and yesterday are the first two days anglers have been able to get out the lake after 10 straight days of wind ” said Ken Hintzman at the Los Vaqueros Marina .
The wind has kept the water temperature down to 69 degrees , allowing Mt Lassen to stock another 1,000 pounds of rainbows in the reservoir . The relatively cool water temperature has also allowed shore anglers to find great success on trout .
“ Shore anglers have been reported catching a lot of limits lately ,” said Hintzman . “ The best areas to target trout are the South Cove , Oak Point and Cowboy Cove . Most of the trout are in the 1-1 / 2 to 3 lb . range , with an occasional larger fish , Most anglers are using PowerBait , but gold and chrome Kastmasters and nightcrawlers are also working .”
Big fish honors go to Ashley Emmanuele , who landed a 6.65 lb . rainbow while fishing PowerBait in the South Cove .
“ Striper fishing is fair to good ,” he said . “ Most of the fish are still
FOLSOM - Few anglers have
been fishing for trout , salmon or
black bass on Folsom Lake lately ,
due to the heavy recreational fishing
pressure on the lake during the hot
weather .
Trolling should be good for
rainbow trout and king salmon for
anglers fishing Speedy Shiners early
and late in the day . James Netzel
of Tight Lines Guide Service was
planning to target trout and salmon
on Folsom at press time – and we
will hear from him about how we did
next time .
Likewise , fishing for bass with
topwater lures , swimbaits and
Senkos early and late in the day is
also worth a try . But most anglers
are going elsewhere to fish in order
to avoid the summer vacation
crowds .
Folsom Lake is almost full and
