BAJA ROUNDUP VOL.36 • ISS. 16 July 21 - August 4, 2017 Vol. 36 - Iss. 16 Pg. 27 July 21 - Aug 4, 2017 31 East Cape Anglers Encounter Full Roster Of Gamefish E ast Cape- The last part of June offered productive but at times tough fishing along the East Cape due in large part to wind. These days the winds have passed and the bite is on for a long list of different species. Some monster 100 plus pound yellowfin tuna have been showing for anglers fishing with the folks from Van Wormer Resorts. The big fish have been hitting chunked bait, but it takes patience. On the average day anglers are hooking good numbers of football size tuna that range up to 40 pounds. Live bait has been the answer for most of the hook ups, but trolled feathers have created some strikes too. Wahoo have been a common catch for East Cape visitors in recent days. The fish are coming on both drifted live baits and trolled plugs. The aver- age wahoo goes 30 to 40 pounds, but larger fish are possible. At Martin Verdugo’s Beach Resort anglers have been hitting the docks with a nice com- bination of tuna and dorado along with the occa- sional wahoo. The dorado are averaging in the 15 to 20 pound class and larger fish are showing. As of this writing the Van Wormer Resorts Dorado Shootout Tournament was right around the corner, on July 15. During the largest dorado will earn the an- gler that caught it a new Volkswa- gen 4 x 4! We’ll have full details of the results in the next edition of the Fish Sniffer. e p a c Es Cape t s a E ´ s abo to Los C s pe´ Ca ! Limit Style Dorado Action Returns To La Paz I “ t’s been a long time, several seasons actually, since I’ve been able to blow the dorado trum- pet!,” quipped Jonathan Roldan of Tailhunter International. “After about 2 1/2 seasons where el Nino conditions kept the dorado ee- nie-meenie small or almost non-ex- istent, it’s nice to have the mahi-ma- hi back in our waters and, while not beasts, they’re nice good-sized fun fish that kept rods bent and folks (es- pecially first-timers) happy. It’s been a long time since I’ve been able to say these two words…, dorado limits!” “While there’s still a bit of chill and wind in the mornings, it’s warm and sunny during the day and some of the best conditions we’ve seen in a while. I’m sure that has had a lot to do with the improved fishing. Still some bump out there, but surely better than it has been and, although I hear there’s been a crazy heat wave in much of the lower U.S. and Pacific States, it’s been a balmy 95 here most of the week,” Roldan report- ed. st F Hotte from as low as * * $ 555 4-days/3nights. 2 days fishing **Availability and restrictions apply.
