VOL.39 • ISS. 14 FRESHWATER REPORTS: CONTINUED FROM PG 15 ROLLINS/SCOTTS FLAT Bass And Trout Cooperate With June Anglers! COLFAX - “I’m impressed. I’m seeing the best fishing I’ve seen at Rollins in a very long time. In fact, bass fishing has never been better at least not for the 20 plus years I’ve been fishing the lake,” reported Jason Pleece of Meadow Vista. “For a long time a big bass up at Rollins was a 12 inch smallmouth and once in a great while someone would hook a decent 3 to 5 pound largemouth. Once spotted bass got into the lake things started changing. These days I’m getting more spots than smallmouths and I’m getting one or more 2 to 3 pound bass on almost every trip,” said Pleece. “On my last trip, I got 11 fish in about 3 hours fishing from my kayak. I got them up top on a Yo-Zuri Banana Boat and used a Shad Rap for shallow cranking. The fish are post spawn and spread out, so you never know when or where the next strike will come. My top fish last night was a 2.07 pound spot,” related Pleece. “I haven’t been trout fishing at Rollins for a couple weeks, but my buddy Ryan and his dad did pretty good trolling. They got a total of 7 planted rainbows in the Bear River Arm while puling flashers and worms on 3 to 5 colors of leadcore,” disclosed Pleece. Over at Scotts Flat there is good reaction bait bass action at times on poppers and rip baits for smallmouths to 3 pounds and northern largemouths to 4. When the hard baits aren’t performing a Ned Rig or a 4 inch wacky Senko will get bites. Trout reports are few and far between for Scotts. Bank fishing is thought to be slow, but trollers had been finding action at the mouth of the river with standard spoons such as Needlefish. Catfish action should be kicking into gear soon at Scotts with baits like liver, License #0E32738 FRESHWATER Gary Caruso and Brian Garcia show off limits of fat Eagle Lake Rainbows trolling with Speedy Shiners at Eagle Lake on June 14th. SACRAMENTO AREA Night Anglers Target Catfish SACRAMENTO – The fishing in the Sacramento metropolitan area has slowed down, with many anglers heading up to higher elevation lakes to fish for trout and kokanee salmon or to the ocean to fish for salmon, rockfish and lingcod or to San Francisco Bay to target halibut and striped bass. White and channel Ccatfish action should pick up in the Sacramento River, Lisbon Slough, the Sacramento Deep Water Channel and the Port of Sacramento with the arrival of hot summer temperatures. Fishing is best for anglers tossing out chicken liver and cut anchovies, sardines, mackerel and other baits. Striped bass fishing is tough in the river locally although patient anglers can hook stripers while fishing pileworms and cut baits off Bryte Beach, Miller Park, Garcia Bend, Freeport and other areas on the Sacramento. Jay Rowan, CDFW Senior Environmental Scientist Supervisor, reported, “We are continuing to plant trout, but have cancelled all the fishing in the city events, and may cancel some plants in very small waters that if planted may make it difficult to follow social distance guidelines. We are also trying our best to identify any waters that are being closed to the public so we don’t plant those.” For more information, call the Fishing in the City - Sacramento Metro Area Information line: (916) 358-2872, or email r2fishinginthecity@wildlife.ca.gov - Dan Bacher June 26, 2020 17 SAN PABLO RESERVOIR Lake Reopens to Shore Fishing, Private Boat Launch SAN PABLO – San Pablo Reservoir reopened on Monday June 15th for private boat launching and shoreline fishing, according to Marcella Shoemaker at the Rocky Mountain Recreation Company.
