TAHOE/DONNER LAKES Tahoe Produces For Summer Trollers SOUTH LAKE TAHOE - Mackinaw are the target for trollers visiting Lake Tahoe in search of action this week. Mackinaw are providing steady limits and some of the lakers are running large. There have also been some brown trout around that range up to 5 plus pounds. The team at Tahoe Sportfishing is putting their clients on macks that range from 3 to 7 pounds while mainly fishing around the south end of the lake. Minnows rigged with flashers are working well as are minnows teamed with large dodgers. Kokanee have yet to show on the big lake, but when they do the folks from Tahoe Sportfishing will get after them! Tahoe Sportfishing has some of the best skippers on Lake Tahoe. The Tahoe Sportfishing boasts a fleet of 8 boats that range from 30 to 45 feet in length. The boats are safe and the crews are well trained, so you’ll be able to relax and fight fish! With some of the most exciting fishing of the year busting loose on Tahoe, give the folks at Tahoe Sportfishing a call now to secure your spot (530) 541-5448 or check them out online at tahoesportfishing.com Mickey Daniels of Mickey’s Big Mack Charters has been enjoying solid action at the north end of the lake. Mickey’s clients have been hooking mackinaw up to 7 pounds. Some fish are being kept for the table while the others are tagged and released. Mickey employs a variety of different lures for his fish including Mack’s Lure Kok-A-Nuts teamed with Sling Blade dodgers. WEST DELTA The most consistent trolling is taking place in the San Joaquin and in the channels above Rio Vista. The top of the tide is the best time. Deep running Yo-Zuri Crystal Minnows have been working well. Bait anglers are fishing the edge of the ship channel near the Power Lines with success. Standard baits and cut baits such as shad, pile worms, sardines and anchovies will all work. Black bass action is widespread and excellent. Small swimbaits, Senkos, creature baits and chatter baits continue to hook fish. The average largemouth is running 2 to 3 pounds with some much larger fish mixed in. The frog bite is starting, but isn’t likely to hit its stride until July rolls around. Catfish anglers are experiencing solid fishing in the evening hours and after dark while fishing smaller sloughs. Clams are the bet bait, but worm, anchovies and chicken livers are working too. Sturgeon are available for anglers working deep water areas in Suisun Bay. The top baits for sturgeon have been roe and eel, but you might want a selection of shrimp baits too. TAHOE SPORTFISHING EST. 1953 Lake Tahoe’s Largest Fishing Fleet year-round fishing Half & Full Day Charters single fisherman to large families & private parties We supply everything you need to fish! GONE FISHING continued from page 1 so that’s exciting news for guys that like to play around for lures. Having said that, if you jump aboard a charter I’d advise you running bait until you have at least one fish in the box. Day in day our lures catch salmon, but bait catches more salmon… If ocean fishing isn’t your bag, the live bait potluck action in San Francisco Bay is just about as good as the salmon bite. Anglers are averaging two halibut per day with some anglers getting three fish limits. And there have been plenty of bonus stripers mixed in too. Most of the bass are schoolies, but the halibut range up to 25 pounds with plenty of 10 plus pounders in the mix. On the freshwater front, most lakes are providing good action on trout and salmon, but there are occasional slow days (which correspond with the days I choose to fish). If you want big kokanee, New Melones is the spot for fish to 18 inches, but you’ll have to put in some time finding them. There are also some big rainbows showing up around the kokanee. Uncle Larry’s Spinners are the top offering for both kokanee and bonus trout. Further north Lake Berryessa is also hosting a productive kokanee bite for fish that range up to 17 inches or so. Like Melones, the Berryessa bite isn’t a push over and you’ll have to put in some time to hit a sweet bite window. Trout fishing at Eagle Lake is going strong and it’s going to get a whole lot better when summer gives way to fall. Photo courtesy of FISH TRAVELER GUIDE SERVICE, Eagle Lake. If trout are your poison Eagle Lake is providing really good fishing for chunky 2 to 3 pounders that fight like steelhead and eat like fine ocean salmon. The downside? Eagle Lake is a 9,617 hour drive from most folks reading this article or at least is seems that way. Still, if you are a trout nut the investment is worth it. Hit the water early, pull grubs, rigged worms or orange spoons and its game on! If the wind comes up don’t endanger yourself, but remember those big Eagle Lake ‘bows like to pull up into the current created by the white caps and the trolling can be amazing. But remember safety first! In closing there are two super productive bites in the Sacramento area. The first is the mixed bag trout and kokanee fishing being featured at Lake Pardee. The other is the striper fishing in the Sacramento River. Yes, the spring run is basically over, but there are still enough bass in the system to offer limit style fishing for guys that invest some time in finding them. Go get them! I’ll see your right here in the pages of the next edition of the Fish Sniffer and remember, river salmon fishing kicks off on July 16! 3722 Mackinaw Kokanee Salmon Rainbow Trout Brown Trout Call or Book Online (530) 541-5448 tahoesportfishing.com|@tahoesportfishing visit LAKE CAMANCHE World-Class Trout & Bass Fishing, year round! 2 for 1 CAMPING Camp one night at Lake Camanche and receive your second night free.
