Charter Boaters Enjoy Great
Multiple Species Fishing!
EAST BAY- Halibut scores are ranging from
very good to fantastic depending on the day
and there have been some quality stripers
mixed in. Salmon fishing has been decent
some days and very good on other days. On
the bottomfish scene limits of rockfish have
been the rule and anglers that work the rocks
are also limiting on lings.
The Happy Hooker, Pacific Dream,
Goldeneye 2000 and California Dawn have
been smacking a lot of halibut outside and
inside the Golden Gate while drifting live
baits.
Average size halibut are going 8 to 10
pounds, while the largest fish weight 30 plus
pounds.
The Eldorado 3 and New Easy Rider have
been focused on salmon trolling. The scores
have ranged from full limits to about a fish per
rod on the slower days.
The kings average about 10 pounds and
range up into the upper 20’s.
On the lingcod front, Captain James Smith
of California Dawn Sportfishing has been
putting his clients in incredible action at the
islands and up the Marin Coast.
“We had another spectacular day of fishing,”
exclaimed Smith after his most recent trip.
“Full limits of both lingcod and rockfish for
our group today. The weather was absolutely
gorgeous and the drift was ideal.”
Big smiles and big lings, that’s been the story for anglers fishing aboard
the Huli Cat this August.

Captain Rick Powers of Bodega
Bay Sport Fishing had a small
charter out on Thursday, August
27, and he said, “It was good that
the salmon decided to show up
again. We landed 7 salmon to 18
pounds for 7 passengers on the
boat, and this was in addition to

limits of rockfish and a 10-pound lingcod. We also
lost a few salmon to marauding sea lions.”
On August 28, the 18 anglers aboard the boat
caught 8 salmon to 23 pounds, 7 lingcod to 14
pounds and 180 rockfish.
“The salmon bite has been off for a while, but the
commercial salmon boats are finding great action
north of the harbor with one boat loading up with
132 salmon and another with 99 on a single outing.
These fish are on their way. The conditions have
been outstanding with no wind and flat, glassy
