Meamwjo;e.triple-digit temperatures
have limited the number of fishermen
on the lake and the smoke and heavy
recreational boating has also been a
deterrent.
The few big kokanee are moving
towards the river arm as the kokanee are
attempting a spawn.

Chinooks Before Fire
OROVILLE –On
September 9,
the Lake Oroville
State Recreation
Area was closed
until further notice
due to active fire
within the park and
surrounding areas
of the park. Before
the fire, Chinook
salmon were still
providing solid
fishing.
“On my last trip to
Oroville, .it wasn’t
a limits kind of day,
but we did have
good action,” said
Rob Reimers of
Rustic Rob’s Guide
Service. “The two
anglers hooked 7
fish, landing 5 of
them. Two of the
fish were holdovers
measuring 22 to 25
inches long,, while
the three other fish

and 18 inches.
“We caught all of our fish on Mini-Brad’s
Cut Plugs at 50 to 70 feet deep,” said
Reimers. “The key was to target the balls
of shad that the fish were feeding upon.
We fished all over the lake – at the green
bridge, the dam and towards the north
fork.”
Dave Garcia reported mixed bass
fishing results on recent trips to Oroville.
“My wife and I went out of Bidwell Canyon
on Thursday,. In past I have always done
well in the marina area. I got skunked,
the worst I ever done on Oroville. I only
saw 1 fish jump, no bait fish at all, like at
Limesaddle Marina. I talked to one guy
who said they caught 2 salmon trolling
under the Highway 162 bridge at 50 to 90
feet; he said it was slow,” he stated.
“My wife and I
have peddle kayaks,
so our fishing range
is very limited,”
he stated.. “We
basically troll for
bass with deep
diving crankbaits.
The last time out
of Limesaddle I
caught 22 and my
wife 12 bass. Most
fish were 13- 16
inches. I went out of
Stringtown (South
Fork) twice last
month and caught
10 - 15 fish both
times in a half-day.”
Lake Oroville is
currently holding
1,713,545 acre feet
of water, 48 percent
of capacity and 72
percent of average.

PARDEE LAKE
Kokanee Head Down Deep
with Heat
IONE – Robbie Dunham of Koke
Machine Guide Service reported “lights
out” kokanee fishing at Pardee Reservoir
during his latest trip.
“The two anglers fishing with me caught
20 kokanee by noon,” said Dunham. “We
trolled with Apex lures, tipped with white
corn, behind dodgers at 100 to 140 feet
deep in the Mokelumne River Arm up to
Deer Island. The fish averaged 12 to 13
inches long, with the top two measuring
14 inches.”
“We didn’t try trolling for trout that day; it
was getting hot and the guys wanted to go
home,” he stated,
You don’t have much time to fish for
kokanee, as the fish are moving into
spawning mode. “We have maybe 1 to 2
weeks left before the mature kokanee run
up the Mokelumne River to spawn,” said
Dunham.
The NorCal Trout Anglers Challenge
Tour will arrive at Pardee on October 10.
The tournament is open to both bank
anglers and boaters. The adult entry fee
is $25 and kids 15 and under are free.

REDDING/RED BLUFF
Salmon Bite Comes On
Strong
REDDING- Salmon fishing on the
Sacramento River has improved over
the past week. Two weeks ago anglers
were fishing for one to two bites per day.
Currently anglers are landing limits and
near limits of kings daily.
“The fishing is good,” reported Mike
Bogue of Mike Bogue’s Guide Service.
“Some days it’s really good and some
days you have to work for them. I think the
best fishing is still ahead of us and that’s
saying a lot, because it’s been pretty darn
good overall.”
