no more than one of which may
be greater than 23 inches, and a
possession limit of six, of which
only three may be greater than 23
inches. On the Lower Klamath,
from the Highway 96 bridge at
Weitchpec to the mouth, 648
adults will be allowed for sport
harvest. The section above the 96
bridge at Weitchpec to 3,500 feet
downstream of the Iron Gate Dam
will get 220 adults. The take of
salmon is prohibited from Iron Gate
Dam downstream to Weitchpec
from Jan. 1 through Aug. 14.
The Spit Area (within 100 yards
of the channel through the sand
spit formed at the Klamath River
mouth) will close when 15 percent
of the total Klamath River Basin
quota is taken downstream of the
Highway 101 bridge. In 2020, 194
adults can be harvested below
the 101 bridge before the closure
at the mouth is implemented. The
rest of the area below Highway
101 (estuary) will remain open to
recreational fishing.
On the Trinity, where the fall
season begins Sept. 1 and closes
Dec. 31., the quota is set at 428
adults. The quota will be split
evenly; 214 adults for the main
stem Trinity downstream of the Old
Lewiston Bridge to the Highway
299 West bridge at Cedar Flat
and 214 adults for the main stem
Trinity downstream of the Denny
Road bridge at Hawkins Bar to
the confluence with the Klamath.
The main stem downstream of
the Highway 299 Bridge at Cedar
Flat to the Denny Road Bridge in
Hawkins Bar is closed to all fishing
September 1 through December
31. The take of salmon is prohibited from
the confluence of the South Fork Trinity
River downstream to the confluence of the
Klamath River from Jan. 1 through Aug.
31.
Once these quotas have been met, no
Chinook salmon greater than 23 inches in
length may be retained. Anglers may still
retain a limit of Chinook salmon under 23
inches in length.
Important Reminder: Spring-run Chinook
salmon fishing regulations will run from
July 1 through Aug. 14 on the Klamath
and through Aug. 31 on the Trinity. The
bag limit is one salmon per day, with two
in possession.
Additional season information can be
found on CDFW’s ocean salmon webpage
or by calling CDFW’s ocean salmon
hotline at (707) 576-3429 or the Klamath-
Trinity River hotline at (800) 564-6479. All
anglers on the Trinity and Klamath rivers
must have Salmon Harvest Cards in their
possession when fishing for salmon.

SACRAMENTO – “This has been one
of the best springs for white sturgeon in
recent years on the Sacramento River
from Verona up to Colusa,” said Tim
Boggs of Elkhorn Outdoors. “Anglers still
fishing for stripers have reported sturgeon
rolling around their boats.”
The fish are hitting best on eel/
nightcrawler combinations. “Both shore
and boat fishing for the sturgeon remains
good,” said Boggs. “About 2 out of 10
sturgeon are keepers and the rest are
oversized.”
The striper fishing has backed off with
the arrival of hot weather, but that hasn’t
stopped the channel catfish from biting.

BRENTWOOD - To slow the spread
of COVID-19 and in response to the
County’s shelter in place directive, the
Los Vaqueros Reservoir and Watershed

further notice. The weekly fishing reports
are on hold until the watershed reopens.

AMADOR LAKE
Black Bass Fishing Is Sizzling
IONE – The Memorial Day Weekend
brought out loads of recreational boaters
to the lake, and the boat traffic has
affected the ability to target bass despite
the overall size of the massive body of
water. The bass are healthy, and they are
found throughout the lake with a variety
of techniques.
John Liechty of Xperience Fishing
Guide Service said, “I stayed off of
the lake during the weekend, but the
bass bite has been awesome despite
being unpredictable. We are seeing
things that we normally don’t see as the
bass weren’t pressured for months, but
the rollercoaster weather has created
unpredictable conditions. It was 90
degrees, then dropping to 65 degrees,
and now back to over 100 degrees.”
“The water temperature dropped from
77 degrees down to the 67 to 69-degree
range before starting to come back up.
Every trip has been a success, and
the swimbait bite has been excellent in
spite of May not being an ideal swimbait
month,” he noted.
“We found largemouth bass just shy
of 6 pounds with plenty of 3’s and 4’s
along with a 5.2-pound spotted bass on
a swimbait. Bluegill
patterns are working
best as there are
clouds of 1/4th to
½-inch fry on the
surface along with
balls of shad. The

busting on shad, and when you find this,
the topwater bite is awesome. We are
also working plastics on a shakey head in
certain areas of the lake,” he concluded.
The few kokanee found are large, but
the lack of planting in 2018 will limit this
year’s crop of land-locked salmon.
Huge brown trout continue to be found
on occasion, but trout trolling remains a
grind with trollers working hours for the
opportunity at a quality brown or rainbow
trout.
Glory Hole Sports in Angels Camp has

OROVILLE LAKE
Trollers Lay Into Hefty King
Salmon
OROVILLE - Lake Oroville State
Recreation Area is now open for day-use
vehicular access which includes parking
lots, boat launches and trails. Anglers are
experiencing top-notch action on Chinook
salmon, including some big ones.
“About half the people coming into my
shop are heading up to Oroville to fish for
kings,” said Craig Newton at Willfish Bait
and Tackle in Auburn. “Most of the fish are
hitting white glow hoochies and black and
silver lures because the kings are feeding
on the 2 to 3 inch salmon planted in the
lake by the CDFW.
“The fish are hitting at the dam, the
spillway and the Bidwell Canyon Bridge at
25 to 60 feet deep” said Newton.
Some big fish are showing in the
catches, including two 6 lb. 7 oz. and 6
lb .10 oz. kings landed by friends fishing
with Rob Reimers of Rustic Rob’s Guide
Service.
On one trolling adventure, Reimers
reported “an awesome day on the Big
O,” said Reimers. “We ended up with a
limit for Gary and one for dinner for the
Captain. Brad’s cut plugs did it again.
Lady’em and gold diver were the top color
patterns.”
However , the fishing slowed down on
Memorial Day weekend when big crowds
of recreational boaters descended on the
lake. “On our latest trip, 5 members of
the Brad’s crew landed a 6 lb. steelhead
