Kokanee Salmon Action Sizzles

NAPA – Boaters are bagging limits of kokanee salmon , along with some rainbow trout and an occasional king salmon , while trolling at Lake Berryessa . “ On 2 different trips , we had the same results for both my clients - early limits of kokanee . We then got to fish for trout , catching and releasing rainbows and some kokanee ,” reported Rich Crispi of TW Guide Service . “ There is a great early morning bite that fizzles out around 9 am ,” he noted . “ Then it ’ s one here one there time .” “ Trip 1 proceeded at a slower pace , going 7 for 7 on kokes and a few rainbows . Trip 2 was red hot , going 8 for 12 on the kokes . Both days we caught limits by 9:30 a . m .,” Crispi said . “ The RMT Pink plankton squid with purple Moonshine dodger out shined the rest of the lures .,” said Crispi .“ We got a few on Dutch fork butterfly in green , red and pink and purple . The fish were at 25 to 35 feet . The fish are pushing down , but there are still plenty of fish at 20 feet still .”

Anglers are catching all three bass species – largemouths , smallmouths and “ spots ” – in the shallows at Berryessa now . Luke Lipinovich of Sweeney ’ s Sports in Napa reported that jerkbaits like the Lucky Craft Pointer Minnow in the Ghost Minnow pattern are producing good numbers of bass . For a chance at a spring trophy largemouth , he recommends using big swimbaits .

Trollers Bag Limits of Scrappy Kokanee

DOBBINS – “ Easy limits ” are the reward for experienced anglers trolling with downriggers on Bullards Bar Reservoir , reported Craig Newton of Willfish Bait and Tackle . “ I kept 7 kokanee on my latest trip to the lake ,” said Craig Newton of Willfish Bait and Tackle . “ One fish was just under 12 inches , while other six were in the 10 to 10-1 / 2 inch range . I trolled by myself with hoochies , tipped with white corn , behind dodgers at 12 to 4 pm .” He landed a total of 20 fish during the afternoon , including a lot of kokanee in the the 8 to 9 inch range . from the surface down to 25 feet deep as they feed on plankton . Quite a few boats are fishing for the kokanee at this time “ There were half a dozen other boats fishing on the lake that day ,” he reported . Englebright Reservoir continues to produce recently stocked rainbow trout , along with some larger holdover rainbows and an occasional German brown . Anglers should troll with worms behind dodgers or Rapalas in the Yuba River Arm . Bullards Bar is holding 588,509 acre feet of water , 61 percent of capacity and 81 percent of average . Englebright is holding 66,838 feet of water , 95 percent of capacity and 100 percent of average .

Trout , Bass and Catfish Excite Anglers

BURSON - It ’ s spring and time to catch trout , black bass and crappie at Lake Camanche . Trout plants continue at the Mother Lode reservoir . Mt . Lassen delivered 3600 lbs . of trout to all three locations , - the south shore , pond and north shore – during their latest plant . 370 lbs . were trophy-sized ! Trollers are using Speedy Shiners and other lures from the surface down to 40 feet . The trout are going into deeper water with the warming weather . Big trout honors go to Brad Jacque , who caught a rainbow measuring 26 ” and weighing 9.52 lbs . He was at the pond using 6 lb . test line and a red trout magnet when he hooked the trophy fish , according to the Lake Camanche Recreation Company . Ed L . of Sunnyvale landed a 4.3 lb . trout while trolling a Speedy Shiner in the Main Lake near South Shore .

Sam G . caught an 8.35 lb . trout off the north shore on Power Bait . Bass fishing enthusiasts have been hooking plenty of bass while tossing out jerkbaits , Senkos and Roboworms . Arturo of Hayward nailed a 9.33 lb . largemouth at the North Shore Day Use Area while using a jerkbait . Mason S . of Tracy bagged a 5.97 lb . catfish in the main lake using a Power Worm . The largest fish caught by year end ( reported and photographed ) will win a free annual day use pass for 2022 !!! Lake Camanche ’ s current elevation is 208.37 feet above sea level . The inflow from Lake Pardee is currently at 232 cfs . The spill is at 0 cfs . The outflow from Lake Camanche is currently 330 cfs ..
