2021 season , we need a summary of what happened in 2020 : Big Fat trout in 2020 !! For Eagle Lake that means many fish in the 18 to 21 inch range averaging 2.75 to 3.5 lbs and up . Except during the “ dog days of summer ”, experienced anglers took limits or near limits of Eagle Lake trout on most outings in 2020 . In the later part of the season , many fish over 4 pounds and a fair number of 5 pound fish were landed . At the end of the 2020 season , you fished until you caught your 2 fish limit or until you got tired if you were releasing fish . THAT WAS SOME FUN ! My 2021 Forecast in Two Sentences : I expect the Eagle Lake Trout to be in the usual spots at the usual times . I expect more high three and four pound fish to show more often this year . Although we are again in a drought pattern in 2021 , there is still plenty of water in Eagle Lake ’ s south basin where many of our main “ fishing lanes ” are located . Launching will be available at the low water ramp at Gallatin Marina throughout the season . The fish seem to be getting larger season to season . The angling pressure was light last year and the planting schedules and numbers were within guidelines , so there are plenty of fish . And I have been saying for the last two years , “ the Eagle Lake Trout have BIG shoulders .” In the cooler months of June , October , November , and December , the fish should be feeding in water 5-20 feet deep . On the west side fish off Slough Point , Pelican Point , and Wildcat Point out in the deeper water . On the east side , fish in the same depths off Ronald McDonald ’ s , Eagles Nest , and up to and in Miner ’ s Bay . When trolling deeper water , we fish with Needle Fish , Thomas Boyant , and Excel spoons . It is always best to be on the water as early as legally allowed as the best bite is EARLY . In 2021 I will be offering guided trips for parties up to four all season at Eagle Lake .
