Chad Smith landed this hefty 7.2lb king salmon . He was fishing with Brett Brady of Barebones Guide Service when he caught this beauty !
Photo Courtesy of Barebones Guide Service reported Craig Newton at Willfish Bait and Tackle . “ It was a nice day with a little wind from time to time . The two of us found a few fish right out of Dark Day , but it was a slow pick so we made the run up the river . We found fish , but it was the same story . We went through the gear and got a couple over 12 inches .”
“ Then we Hit Mill Creek on the way back ,” said Newton . “ We should have started there , since were lots of fish there . We ended the day with 12 landed , 6 released , 6 kept ( 3 over 12 ”), and several long-distance releases . The hot setup was a pink GVF dodger and Pink Paulina Peak hoochie . The fish came from 25 ’ to 50 ’.” Englebright Reservoir continues to produce recently stocked rainbow trout , along with some larger holdover rainbows and an occasional German brown . Anglers should troll with worms behind dodgers or Rapalas in the Yuba River Arm .
Bullards Bar is holding 572,540 feet of water , 59 percent of capacity and 71 percent of average .
Englebright is holding 64,242 feet of water , 92 percent of capacity and 95 percent of average

getting out are still nailing some quality rainbows .
For example , Mr . Maples of Camanche Vlllage nailed a 5.22 lb . rainbow while trolling a Flatfish in the main body of the lake , according to the Lake Camanche Recreation Company .
For maximum trout success , trollers should fish with Speedy Shiners in the main river channel from the North Shore Marina to the dam at 20 to 50 feet .
Shore anglers fishing the South Shore Pond are reeling in rainbow trout while using Trout Magnets , spoons , garlic Power Bait , Mice Tails and nightcrawlers . One angler , Walter , brought in two quality trout while soaking nightcrawlers and marshmallows in the pond .
The surface water temperature has gone up above 70 degrees , preventing more trout plants until this fall . The last trout plant on the lake featured 1800 pounds of Mt . Lassen rainbows , split between the north and south shores .

The Clearlake Oaks-Glenhaven Catfish Derby is the largest catfish tournament west of the Mississippi . Each May hundreds of eager fishermen and women visit Clear Lake for a chance to land the big one and win one of many prizes .
The tournament features : separate divisions for adults and kids ; food and entertainment ; a $ 5,000 prize cash for the largest fish caught in the adult division ; $ 100 for the largest fish caught in each of two kids divisions ; over $ 10,000 total in cash and merchandise prizes .
The bass bite also continues to be solid at Clear Lake . “ The fish are in all stages of the spawn – pre-spawn , pre-spawn and post-spawn ,” stated Tanner Messimer at Clear Lake Outdoors . “ The key is to find a big concentration of fish . Most of the fish are in the 3 to 4 lb . range .”
He recommended fishing frogs in the early morning and evening hours and throwing out Keitech swimbaits , Senkos , drop shot rigs and jigs during the day .
Collins Lake
Trout Fishing Good , But Fish Are Deeper
OREGON HOUSE – Although trollers are catching the majority of rainbow trout at Collins Lake now , shore anglers who fish in deep water are still landing some fish .
For example , Devin Tasoya bagged five trout in the 2 to 5 lb . class while soaking PowerBait off the bank , according to Cassie at the Collins Lake Resort .
On May 22 , Darren Peterson of Plumas Lake and his fishing partner landed 7 trout while trolling Rat-L-Traps off the bank . Dana and Dan Seryance teamed up to catch a 5 lb . trout while trolling spinners in the middle of the lake .
“ Trollers are picking up the most trout in the 25 to 30 feet depths ,” noted Cassie .
Bass fishing has started to slow down , while some catfish up to 6 pounds have been reported in the catches . Use Senkos , jigs , swimbaits and other lures for the bass and mackerel , chicken liver , nightcrawlers and other baits for catfish .
The lake level is 29 feet from full and the surface water temperature is 68 degrees .

Lake Del Valle
Stripers Top Angling Menu
LIVERMORE - If you want to catch fish at Lake Del Valle , striped bass offer the top angling option at this time .
Boaters and bank anglers are nailing stripers while fishing anchovies in the Lower Narrows , according to the Rocky Mountain Recreation Company . The water temperature is at 69 degrees , perfect for striper fishing .
Big fish honors go to Carlos Lara from San Jose , who caught a 8.10 lb . striper while using sardines in the Lower Narrows .
The smallmouth bass fishing was slow for Paul Clouse of Lafayette , Al Hurwitz of Saratoga , and Abbey Lev of Sunnyvale during a trolling adventure to Del Valle on May 20 .
“ We were targeting smallmouth bass by trolling one of our best smallie lures , a 1 / 4 oz Panther Martin Spinner in both feathered and unfeathered patterns ,” said Al Hurwitz . “ After scent was applied , we trolled the Panther Martins about 15-20 feet below the water ’ s surface in 20-40- foot water columns . We concentrated on rocky shorelines , points , and subsurface structure . Regrettably , we could only catch a small striped bass that we released . Heavy winds remain a significant problem for trolling .”
“ Smallmouth fishing should improve in another 3-4 weeks when the lake temperature is both warmer and more uniform throughout the lake . The good news is that the lake level is up , and the algae bloom is down ,” noted Hurwitz .
For both largemouth and smallmouth bass , anglers should toss out plastic worms and jigs or drop shot rigs .
The trout fishing has slowed down due to the warm water . For your best chance of hooking rainbow trout , toss out PowerBait , worms , Panther Martins , Kastmasters , Rooster Tails and small spinners . The latest plant of 1,000 pounds of Mt . Lassen trout took place on May 12 .
Eastern Sierra
Signs of Cutthroats Starting to Show
Getting through the month of May has brought some warm and sunny weather with high pressure days , but also some minor cold fronts accompanied by wind and a little rain . The highest elevations in the sierra have received a dusting of snow . Most snowfall at this time of year does not stick around and quickly melts off . Fishing has been very good in most locations . Crowley Lake has been very good for all species of trout in shallower water than usual . Solid midge hatches have been making for some amazing fishing on trout to 23 ”. The inlets are starting to show sign of cutthroat trout now , and runoff is starting to take effect on most freestone creeks and rivers . East Walker flows have come up a bit and will hopefully rise another 50 cfs to get some fish to start moving out to deeper water . The Upper Owens River is off color below the bridge , and the cutts are making their way upstream . Lower Owens River is holding at the 270 cfs range .
The East Walker is running at 88 cfs now , creating a bit more real estate for the trout . Some larger fish are being caught on bigger streamers and crawdads . # 16-18 various Midges , # 16-18 Prince Nymphs , Rubber Legs , and Squirmy Worms in all colors have also been producing .
Hot Creek can fish well in the first few hours of the morning . Late mornings and into the afternoon will now show some stained water and slow down the hatches some as Mammoth Creek brings in cold
