Davis . “ Shore fishermen are doing best while fishing off Mallard and the Grizzly Campground ,” said Graham . “ Most anglers are using Power Bait and worms .”
Fly fishing enthusiasts are also experiencing success at Davis while fishing at Jenkins , the Lightning Tree and Fairview . The top patterns are damsel fly emergers , black ants and an array of nymphs , Graham tipped .
For largemouth bass and brown bullhead catfish , she suggested targeting the Eagle Point and Coot Bay areas . “ The bass are hitting soft plastics and Rooster Tail spinners , while the catfish are biting best on worms ,” she said . The biggest bass weighed in lately went 4 pounds , 3 ounces .
LAKE DEL VALLE
Stripers Continue to Offer Most Consistent Fishing
LIVERMORE - Striped bass continue to provide the most consistent fishing for bank anglers and boaters fishing at Lake Del Valle .
The hot spot for stripers is the dam , according to Jack Forzano of the Rocky Mountain Recreation Company . The top baits are anchovies and sardines .
Big fish honors go to Gary Elizarrey from Hayward , who caught a 7.05 lb . striper while using anchovies at the Dam . Mateo from Morgan Hill also caught a 3.4 lb . striper while soaking anchovies at the Dam . For channel catfish , Forzano

recommended fishing chicken liver , anchovies , sardines and nightcrawlers .
If you want largemouth and smallmouth bass , Forzano recommended using plastic worms , jigs and drop shot rigs .
Target crappie and bluegill with nightcrawlers , redworms , and little Micro Jigs .
The water temperature has warmed to 72 degrees . The water is clear around the Marina . The farther you go toward the dam , the better the water clarity will get .
The trout fishing has slowed down with the warm weather . The lake hasn ’ t been planted with trout since May 12 , when Mt . Lassen stocked 1000 pounds of rainbows .
LAKE DON PEDRO
Fast Trollers Nail Rainbows , Kings and Kokanee
LA GRANGE - Boaters fast-trolling with spoons are bagging a mixture of rainbow trout , king salmon and kokanee salmon at Lake Don Pedro .
Monte Smith of Gold Country Sportfishing reported that a father-son combination landed 8 rainbow trout to 2-1 / 2 pounds , a 3 lb . king salmon and three kokanee in the 15 inch range on May 27 . They fast-trolled with Smith ’ s homemade spoons at 40 to 60 feet deep on the main body .
On his next trolling adventure on June 2 , a party of 4 anglers landed 17 kokanee , lost several others , kept two rainbows and

EASTERN SIERRA
Rainbows , Cutthroats , and Browns in the Mix
EASTERN SIERRA - Cruising along right into the month of June now , with a major change in the weather . Run-off is going strong now and should pass fairly quickly with the minimal snowpack this year . High pressure set in and really bumped temperatures up for late spring . We saw lots of wind for the past month , and now sunny and warm days are prevailing , and just in time for family summer vacations in the eastern sierra . The road to the lakes basin in Mammoth is now open and there is access all the way to Horseshoe Lake . Looks like some slight cooling for next week is forecasted with some wind possibilities to return . This will create dangerous fire hazards for the eastern sierra and dry areas of the state .
Fish have been moving to deeper water now in Crowley Lake and feeding heavily on midges . The fish will settle into different depths on a day to day basis . Blood midges , copper tigers , zebras , mud candy and articulated midge patterns are all working well . Look for the damselfly hatch to start very soon . 19 - 23 ’ water has been the norm .
The Upper Owens River still has a few cutthroat trout in various areas . San Joaquin River is still inaccessible by vehicle . Hot Creek getting low and weedy , but still fishing well along the clear routes . East Walker River flows are low again .
Hot Creek water level is getting low and with a light snowpack this year , there will be a lot of weed growth very soon . For now , smaller nymphs and dry flies are getting fish along the deeper pools and runs . The major caddis hatches will be coming soon .
The East Walker River is back down to low flows for this time of year . Best fishing will occur in the deepest pools at this depth and as the water begins to warm . Crawdads and smaller baitfish flies are working well for the big browns .

Anglers should use PowerBait , Power Eggs , nightcrawlers , Kastmasters , Panther Martins and other offerings for the trout .
Anglers have weighed in some hefty holdover rainbows in the 4 to 8 lb . range from Alpine over the past couple of weeks , said Reynolds . You can launch a boat at Alpine , but the boat ramp isn ’ t in the water .
At Spicer Reservoir , anglers are throwing out Kastmasters , Panther Martins , PowerBait and nightcrawlers from shore near the dam and the boat ramp ,, said Reynolds .
The lake level is already below the ramp , so larger boats will have a difficult time launching at best . Anglers in small boats are hooking limits of rainbows while topline trolling with Wedding Rings , Speedy Shiners and other lures
The North Fork of the Stanislaus River and White Pines Lake are being planted regularly with rainbow trout by the CDFW , noted Reynolds .
In the Carson Pass region , Caples , Silver and Bear River reservoirs are all open and brown trout and mackinaws are being caught .
A big batch of catchable brown trout was planted in Caples Lake by the CDFW on May 7 and anglers continue to catch the browns on nightcrawlers , Kastmasters and other offerings , according to Joe Voss at the Caples Lake Resort .
Shore anglers fishing with nightcrawlers , PowerBait and Kastmasters at Lower Bear River Reservoir are also catching browns off the bank . Boaters have picked up a few mackinaw while trolling plugs or nightcrawlers behind dodgers on the lake also .
The East and West Carson Rivers are fishable , but fishing is tough .
“ The East Carson is still running fast and cold ,” said Tracy Matheson at the Carson River Resort . “ The CDFW has stocked 4800 pounds of rainbows since the opener , while Alpine County has planted 1800 pounds in the rivers since the opener . 500 pounds of Heenan Lake Lahontan cutthroat have also been planted .”
Worms , salmon eggs and Power Bait are the premier baits ; flies haven ’ t been productive lately .
She also reported that Red Lake and Indian Creek Reservoir have each been stocked with 500 pounds of Lahontan cutthroat trout from Heenan Lake . She recommended tossing out an array of lures for the trout .

EAGLE LAKE
Opening Day Produces Limits !
LASSEN COUNTY - Opening day was May 29 and most anglers caught their limits of Eagle Lake Trout , not only on Saturday , but Sunday and Monday too .
Pretty much all trolling methods worked . Anglers caught limits using down riggers , lead core line , and on surface side planners . Night crawlers and spoons like Needlefish , Thomas Boyant , and Z Rays all caught fish . We caught our limits trolling flies in shallow water at the Youth Camp area .
Wild Cat Point , Shrimp Island , Eagle ’ s has been hot for rainbows , reported Bill Reynolds at Ebbetts Pass Sporting goods . Continued on Pg 19
