Ernie Marlan fulfilled a lifelong dream of catching a white sea bass ! He fished with Gray Light Charters based out of Oxnard , California and fished near the Channel Islands . Captain Shawn did an amazing job searching for the fish and two very productive stops on schools of fish made the trip . The six anglers had an amazing day on the water with a final score of six yellowtail , one halibut and 6 white sea bass . The full story of this trip will be in the next issue . Stay tuned !

Gorge and all the rivers tributaries . The Columbia River sturgeon trips begin in Astoria , Oregon . You can expect to catch 20 to 40 Sturgeon per day ! These fish will average 60 + pounds . Dan targets these fish in depths of only 3 to 12 feet of water , and when you hook one of these monsters you will be amazed at the aerial nature of their fight in such shallow water . Sometimes it seems they spend more time out of the water instead of in it !! The fantastic aerobatics of these hard fighting fish is unbelievable and definitely part of the package . Dan uses only quality tackle and specialized equipment for these strong fish . 8 foot medium – heavy rods with tough- line spectra 65 pound test line on Shimano Reels are the perfect match to this fishery . Favorite baits are sand shrimp and / or anchovies in this lower Columbia fishery . You will be fishing out of a comfortable 24 ’ North River sled . This is world class “ catching ” and releasing of large numbers of heavy weight fish . The premier months are June through July for Catch & Release Sturgeon .
