FRESHWATER REPORTS :

NEW MELONES LAKE cont .
on board any vessel they are navigating . Water temperature is 79 and warms up to low 80 degrees or so mid-day . Water visibility is anywhere from 4-6 feet and will have some mudlines on the weekends due to the high amount of boat traffic out on the lake . TROUT - Trout fishing along the shoreline is tough as they are mostly being found in the cooler , deeper 40-60 ft . water . Going upriver past the bridges and outside the mouth of the dam is productive trolling silver speedy shiners , Mack ’ s wiggle hoochie , or a hoochie / gold hammered dodger combo . The brown trout bite has been fantastic upriver with several 8-15 lb . fish being caught and released for another day . Urban Escape Guide Service has been on the brown trout bite , landing some beautiful browns up to a estimated 16 + lbs , ( broke the scale !). New Melones lake record currently is 13.4 lbs caught by Michale Olivera in 2011 . You can call Matt to schedule a trip @ 916-628-8477 . No downriggers ? The Luhr Jensen Deep Six diver will get you to the depth you need to be at . Don Cady and Dan Holly pulled out a nice combo of trout and kokanee fishing at a depth of 30-50 ft . near Angels Point using a crawler / apex with a flasher . KOKANEE : With dropping water levels , kokanee fishing is a search mission but anglers are seeing signs of them schooling up . A limit of kokanee can be had like the ones my old school buddies Bruce Dobin and Rick Hostetler along with Josh and Chris landed while out with HeadHunter Sportsfishing a couple weeks ago .
Out in front of the mouth of the dam and slightly out from the spillway have produced the most fish recently although there has been some reports of kokanee being caught up around the Angels Creek area as well . Flutterbugs , hoochies in chartreuse , pink and orange or watermelon have been the hot lure behind a matching dodger . BASS : Good action using plugs and Whopper Ploppers from River2Sea , Underspins , crankbaits or try a Lucky Craft screw pointer , good for suspended or high pressured fish . Morning may be the best time for your topwater presentation switching over to plastic baits later in the day using shakey heads Up river has been producing a good bite along the vertical wall , and on points and near hill tops . CATFISH : Catfishing is starting to heat up with the warmer weather upon us . Cut baits , chicken livers and night crawlers are choices for baits . Kohout of Angels Camp did a late night fishing adventure on Glory Hole Point and landed a 10.03 lb . cat using liver in 20 ft . of water . CRAPPIE : Best shot at crappie is getting into a cove , dropping a light and using crappie jigs or live minnows . Glory Hole Point Boat Ramps : Highest ramp is in water from 1088.00 to 1025.00 ( CLOSED ) Middle ramp is in water from 1028.00-to 940.00 ( OPENED ) Tuttletown Boat Ramps : Highest ramp in water from 1088.00 to 1031.00 ( CLOSED ) Middle ramp in water from 1036.00 to 942.00 ( OPENED ) Angels Cove Boat Ramp : ( CLOSED ) Tucker Tarap , Glory Hole Sports

the lake this year to date , on June 25 . The previous biggest king of the season was the 13.75 lb . giant that Will Shearer III landed at Lake Oroville on June 5 . Brett Brady of Bare Bones Guide Service bagged four salmon up to 9-1 / 2 pounds on his most recent trip to Oroville , reported Craig Newton of Willfish Bait and Tackle .

“ A lot of kings in the 7 to 9 pound range have been landed lately ,” said Newton . “ Many are experiencing the top fishing while trolling Brad ’ s Kokanee Cut Plugs behind flashers or dodgers at 60 to 80 feet deep .” “ Other anglers are nailing the salmon while rolling whole anchovies ,” advised Newton . “ The top areas are the main body near the dam and around the green bridge , but some are also hooking kings in the West Branch .” Bass fishing enthusiasts continue to target spotted bass at Lake Oroville while using an array of drop shot rigs , Senkos , jigs , swimbaits
