Stripers and Catfish Are Grabbing Baits

BYRON - Bank anglers and boaters are nailing striped bass while using anchovies , chicken liver , top water lures , rainbow trout swimbaits and Rapalas at Los Vaqueros Reservoir . Most keeper stripers are in the 19 to 22 inch range , but there are bigger fish out there to pursue , reported Ray Filyu at the Los Vaqueros Marina . A 24 lb . striper was caught recently from the South Cove shore . Seasonal trout planting has ended until water temperatures decrease ., but good sized stripers and trout are still being hooked at Los Vaqueros Reservoir . Mt . Lassen made their last plant of 2,000 pounds of rainbows on June 16 , according to the Los Vaqueros Marina . The water temperature has increased to temperatures too high for safe trout plants . Peninsula Cove , Cowboy Cove , and Howden Cove continue to produce rainbows for anglers in rental boats trolling with nightcrawlers and minnow imitation lures behind dodgers or flashers . Shore anglers are also picking up quality rainbow trout while using PowerBait and other offerings . For example , Yekam El Nakar , a lake regular , landed big rainbow trout , striped bass and largemouth bass on his latest shore fishing adventure to Los Vaqueros . The water level is currently at 124,000 acre-feet . The water clarity has been good except for windy days . If you are looking to rent a boat it is always a good idea to call ahead to check current wind conditions . The fishing pier is open . April - August HOURS are 6:00 AM to 8:00 PM . Boats due at 4pm . A Few Anglers Pull In Kings In Low Water Conditions

OROVILLE – While no anglers have reported a king as big as the 14.2 lb king salmon caught by Richard Kowski of Redwood City on June 25 , quality kings continue to be caught as the water level drops lower and lower at Lake Oroville . Very few anglers are fishing on the lake at this time . Lake Oroville is holding only 1,025,624 acre feet of water , 29 percent of capacity and 37 percent of capacity . The lake is 668 feet in elevation , 232 feet from maximum pool . Brett Brady of Bare Bones Guide Service reported boating 6 out of 10 salmon hook-ups on his latest trip to Lake Oroville . The fish ranged from 4 to 6 pounds , according to Craig Newsom of Willfish Bait and Tackle . “ Anglers have been trolling anchovies behind 8 inch Pro-Troll Flashers in the main body over the river channel ,” said Newton . “ Watch out for trees with the lake as low as it is now .” “ I got a couple of kings at the big O today ,” reported Dave Koistinen on the Lake Oroville Fishing Reports Facebook Page after his latest trip . “ I caught one on a green and chrome tornado 8 ” 360 and one on a copper tornado 8 “ 360 . Both fish hit white hoochies . 80 ft deep , 40 ft set back , at 1.8 mph around the point next to the dam . Myself
