Black bass fishing is also productive on Berryessa , with the key being getting on the water early and late because of summer heat . “ On my most recent trip to the lake , two anglers caught and released 12 bass weighing up to 2-1 / 2 pounds , including 3 smallmouths and 9 largemouths , ” said Don Paganelli of Paganelli ’ s Bass Fishing Experience . “ We hooked the fish on spinnerbaits in the morning and then we switched over Robo Worms on drop shot rigs . Most of the fish were holding at 10 to 15 feet deep .” Paganelli launched at the secondary ramp at Markley Cove , which has no dock in the water .

DOBBINS – The kokanee beat goes on at Bullards Bar Reservoir , with anglers catching consistent limits of landlocked sockeyes . “ There are some kokanee up to 13 inches being caught now , but most are in the 11 to 12 inch range ,” reported Craig Newton at Willfish Bait and Tackle . “ Fishermen are hooking the kokanee at 40 to 50 feet deep with hoochies and spinners , tipped with white corn behind dodgers . The best colors are pink , orange and green . Mill Creek is producing the hottest action now .” Bullards Bar is holding 496,132 acre feet of water , 51 percent of capacity and 62 percent of average . For rainbow and brown trout , anglers should head to Englebright Reservoir . “ Boaters are hooking the rainbows while trolling nightcrawlers and dodgers behind flashers ,” said Newton . “ The browns are hitting Rapalas and other stick baits . Most of the fish go 14 to 15 inches long , although bigger rainbows and browns are also showing .”
