Steelhead fishing on the opening of the upper section of the lower American River below the Nimbus Fish Hatchery was tough on January 1 , 2022 , due to a sudden increase in flows the day before . However , a few anglers hooked steelhead . Carl Ramirez of Roseville caught this scrappy steelhead while fishing an orange bead under a bobber on the American River below the hatchery on New Year ’ s Day .
