California Dawn Sportfishing had a solid final day of the 2021 season . The final count for the California Dawn and New El Dorado 3 was 500 Dungeness crab ( 50 limits ) and 500 rockfish ( 50 limits ).

Rockfish Season Ends with a Bang

BERKELEY – Anglers that ventured out on the ocean during the last week of the rockfish season in 2021 caught limits of rockfish and Dungeness crabs . The rockfish and lingcod season won ’ t reopen until April 1 , 2021 . The California Dawn reported limits of rockfish and crabs , flat weather during the year ’ s last trip on December 30 . The final count for the California Dawn and New El Dorado 3 was 500 Dungeness crab ( 50 limits ) and 500 rockfish ( 50 limits ). “ We have some big changes coming for the 2022 season ,” said Captain James Smith . “ We left on January 5 for Newport Shipyard in Southern California for a retrofit of a galley and new paint job on the Boat formerly known as New Eldorado 3 . We will be changing the name to California Dawn 2 . I ’ m going to chronicle this trip and post up the many upgrades to my boat . The spring halibut / bass fishing started us off and boy was that fun with solid fishing from March to June . Then came salmon season that opened in June and it was limit style fishing to start the season , we also caught a 45-pound monster , along with lots of fish in the 30-38-pound class . We finished off our year fishing crabs with hoop nets . We didn ’ t know how it would work at first but we made it happen and it was a huge success .”

Sanddab / Crab Combo Trip Scores Big

BODEGA BAY – Now that the rockfish season is over until April 1 , anglers are fishing for sanddabs , petrale sole and Dungeness crab off the Sonoma County Coast . Merlin Kolb , Captain of the Reel Magic Sportfishing reported 53 sanddabs , 1 bonus petrale sole and limits of Dungeness crab ( 70 ) for his clients and crew on January 7 . “ Special guests Tyler Aughney , ( my partner Mike ’ s son ), the # 1 REEL NINJA Derek Martin , Peter Leotta , his sweet heart Kimberly Robertson and regular client / half crew Mel Springs had another awesome day here in Bodega . Sand Dabs , Petrale Sole , and Dungies were very happy to see us and we loved every minute of it .,” Kolb stated . “ Conditions were a bit sporty in the morning , but once we got onto the grounds and starting fishing everything went our way . The New Sea Angler made its first crab-only trip of the season on January 6 , returning with 90 Dungeness crab ( full limits ) up to 2.5 pounds for 9 anglers , according to Captain Rock Powers . The crab / rockfish season ended with great results .
