Area ( Point Arena to Pigeon Point ) and the Central Management Area ( Pigeon Point to Point Conception ) from April 1 through Dec . 31 , take is prohibited seaward of the 50 fathom ( 300 feet ) RCA boundary line . In the Southern Management Area ( Point Conception to the U . S ./ Mexico border ) from March 1 through Dec . 31 take is prohibited seaward of the 100 fathom ( 600 feet ) RCA boundary line . Trollers Battle San Francisco Bay Halibut

SAN FRANCISCO – Anglers are picking up good numbers of halibut on San Francisco Bay while waiting for the rockfish season to begin on April 1 and the salmon season to start on April 2 . Mike Rescino , Captain of the Lovely Martha , reported solid halibut fishing while trolling anchovies and herring on the bay . On March 12 , the 12 anglers aboard the boat landed 10 halibut to 10 pounds while fishing in 20 feet of water in the south bay off the San Francisco Airport . “ We had a a slow start but finished up strong ,” he stated . “ We released tons of shakers and had many missed opportunities . The fish hit best on the turn of the tide .” The 12 anglers on the previous trip aboard the Lovely Martha on March 10 bagged 14 halibut to 15 pounds . The 17 fishermen on another trip aboard the Lovely Martha caught 17 halibut to 11 pounds . Erik Anfinson , Captain of the Bass Tub , is gearing up for halibut and striper fishing trips , as well as salmon trolling and rockfish and lingcod adventures this year . Anglers Chase Flatfish Until Rockfish and Salmon Seasons Begin

sanddabs , petrale sole , halibut , surfperch and Dungeness crabs in Monterey Bay . “ There is a bunch of bait in the bay and the halibut are slowly moving in to feed .,” reported Todd Fraser of Bayside Marine . “ There have been a few halibut caught near the Mile Buoy and near Wilder Beach .” “ The perch fishing has been good near Manresa .,” he tipped . “ The wind is blowing , which should help with the upwelling near the Soquel Hole . We have heard good news so far on the salmon season , so get ready for April 2 .” Anglers in search of perch should toss out pileworms , plastic grubs , shrimp baits and other offerings off the beaches and rocks of the bay . The petrale sole and sanddab fishing has been excellent out of Monterey . The Checkmate checked in with 70 petrale sole and lots of sanddabs on March 11 , while the Caroline came back with lots of sanddabs and 15 crab for12 anglers on March 12 ., according to Chris Arcoleo of Chris ’ Fishing Trips . The Legacy out of Stagnaro Sport Fishing has also been fishing for sanddabs and petrale sole . A two angler private charter returned with 150 sanddabs and some petrale sole on March 11 . On a previous trip , the 21 anglers aboard the Legacy landed 350 sanddabs and 10 petrale sole .
