Derby Anglers Battle Stripers Out of Colusa

COLUSA – A total of 91 anglers participated in the NorCal Guides and Sportsmen ’ s Association two-day striped bass derby on the Sacramento River on April 23 and 24 out of the Colusa Boat Ramp . The event featured winners on both Saturday and Sunday , with a maleonly target length at 27 5 / 8th inches on Saturday and a male-only target length at 20 1 / 4th inches on Sunday . The rules required that all fish over 30 inches be released . Saturday ’ s winners in the adult division were : ( 1 ) David Benham , 27 1 / 8 ”; ( 2 ) Tim Thomas , 26 1 / 2 ”; and ( 3 ) Braden Schrader , 29 1 / 2 ”. Benham was also the grand winner for the derby . Thirteen year old Logan Alexander won the big fish released category in the derby with his 33 ” striper and placed first in the youth division on Saturday . He won a $ 250 check , a Simms Fishing Products Tackle Bag donated by Simms and a nice leather plaque . Sunday ’ s winners in the adult division were : ( 1 ) Will Heilker , 20 1 / 4 ” and 3.99 pounds ; ( 2 ) Mike Hendry , 20 1 / 4 ” and 3.90 pounds ; and ( 3 ) Dave Conger , 20 1 / 4 ” and 3.78 pounds . Youth Division winners were : ( 1 ) Waylon Leroux , 20 1 / 4 ;”; ( 2 ) Hudson Schrader , 20 ”; and ( 3 ) Wade Leroux , 19 3 / 8 ”. Shore and Boat Anglers Battle Trout and Stripers

BYRON – A total of 35,500 lbs . of rainbow trout have been planted in Los Vaqueros Reservoir since December 1 , 2021 . “ Mt . Lassen and the CDFW have been loading us up ,’ the Los Vaqueros Marina reported . The latest plant of 1,000 pounds of Mt . Lassen rainbow trout went in on May 4 . The water temperature is currently 60 degrees . Anglers fishing in Peninsula , Cowboy Cove , and Howden coves from a rental boat have caught some limits of rainbow trout lately while trolling minnow imitation lures and bait fishing with PowerBait and nightcrawlers . Bank anglers are tossing out PowerBait , nightcrawlers , Kastmasters and other offerings in the South Cove , at the pier near the marina , and on other areas on the lake . A . J .. Rufino recently caught his limit of rainbows during a fishing adventure on Los Vaqueros . Although trout continue to provide the top fishing at Los Vaqueros , it was a 19-pound striper that topped the latest catches ,. This lucky angler tagged this sturgeon while fishing the delta with Hook ’ d Up Sport Fishing . The sturgeon bite remains really good on the delta .
