PARDEE LAKE
Trout Plants Bolster Catch Rates
IONE – While trout plants have ceased for the spring and summer at other Mother Lode lakes , they continue weekly on Lake Pardee . The most recent plant of 2,000 pounds of Mt . Lassen rainbow and lightning trout went into the reservoir , spicing up the shore and boat action at Pardee . Robbie Dunham reported trout and kokanee success on his most recent trolling adventure at Pardee . “ The fishing was a little slow , but we were still able to get 8 trout and 4 kokanee in the boat .” Said Dunham . “ We landed trout to 3-1 /. 2 pounds and kokanee to 11 inches . We caught both species while trolling Speedy Shiners at 15 to 40 feet deep .” “ We fished the whole lake , starting in the north arm , then going to south arm and then going up the river arm . The fish were . scattered everywhere ,” he advised . If you want to target kokanee , you should troll with hoochies , Apex lures and J-pexes , tipped with white corn , behind flashers at mouth of the river up to twin coves . Bank anglers are catching trout up to 5 pounds while using green garlic PowerBait off Rainbow Point and Treasure Island . Big fish honors go to Chris , who landed a 10 lb . channel catfish . Largemouth and smallmouth bass continue to show , with smallmouths predominating in the catches . Anglers are using an array of drop shot rigs , Senkos , jigs and swimbaits for the bass . The Pardee Marina is now open with a full fleet of rental Pontoons , 14 ft . and 16 ft . fishing boats , kayaks , canoes , and pedal boats . Information : ( 209 ) 772-1474 .

RIO VISTA
Striper and Sturgeon Season Winds Down
RIO VISTA - Fishing for sturgeon is winding down on the Sacramento / San Joaquin River Delta and Suisun Bay as warmer weather sets in , although anglers are still hooking plenty of both species . Three anglers fishing with Zack Medinas of Gatecrasher Fishing Adventures caught and released two oversized sturgeon , two slot ( legal-sized ) fish and three undersized fish on his last trip of the season out of Pittsburg on Friday . They fished eel and salmon roe in Honker Bay . He is now moving his boat to Fisherman ’ s Wharf in San Francisco to fish for salmon and rockfish outside of the Golden Gate and for halibut in San Francisco Bay . Information : ( 925 ) 497-7171 . “ Today we ran our last Spring Delta Striper trip , and unfortunately we had to turn around and come back in due to extremely windy conditions ,” reported Jeff Soo of Soo Hoo Sporfishing , “ We ’ ll be back for the Fall run at the end of August or early September .” On his previous two trips on May 25 and May 26 , the anglers aboard the boat caught full limits of quality striped bass while drifting live minnows on the San Joaquin River . SHASTA LAKE
Big Rainbows On The Chew While Browns and Kokanee Expected To Heat Up
Shasta Lake - Shasta lake is sitting still at 120 ’ to crest and water temperature is creeping up but not bad at 68 ° to low 70 ’ s in the afternoon . We ’ ve been having some pretty windy conditions but we are still catching fish on the days we can get out on the water . Overall , the fishing did get a little slower but the bigger rainbows are starting to show up . We are still getting quite a few juvenile browns that are averaging around the one pound range with the occasional big guys . Rainbows are one to two pounds . Spoons are still doing very well with no specific color or speed depending on the day . We ’ re still fishing 20 ’ and deeper , but the higher side has been more productive . The bite has been best before 9:00am still pecking away at them after that . We still haven ’ t seen any big schools of shad yet . Rainbows stomachs are mostly full of Daphnia and bugs . Bad news is the copepods are already showing

STAMPEDE RESERVOIR / TRUCKEE RIVER
Kokanee Salmon Bite Rages
TRUCKEE – The kokanee bite at Stampede Reservoir has been great over the past couple of weeks . Cal Kellogg of Fish Hunt Shoot reported wide-open kokanee fishing at Stampede Reservoir on June 1 and 2 while fishing from a kayak . “ I limited out on the first day by 10:30 a . m . and on the second day by 7:30 a . m .” said Kellogg . “ The fish I kept were 13 to 16 inches long . I trolled near the boat ramp , but the fish were everywhere on the lake .” “ The kokanee hit pink Uncle Larry ’ s spinners , tipped with

“ The kokanee at Stampede are averaging around 14 inches each ,” confirmed Craig Newton at Willfish Bait and Tackle in Auburn . “ Anglers are getting limits pretty fast at 25 to 40 feet deep . Hoochies and spinners in pink and orange are producing the top action .” “ My advice is after going out of the launch ramp , take a left and start fishing ,” said Newton . “ Some Lahontan cutthroats are also being taken by anglers . One local angler reported catching a 24 inch cutthroat at Stampede .”
“ The Truckee River is flowing around 900 cfs through the downtown gauge ,” according to the Reno Fly Shop . “ This is good for extending our summer fishing season and keeping flows we are hoping into August . It does make fishing a little difficult as there is more water in the river and more room for the fish to hide . We suggest that one should cover water effectively and methodically and assume the trout are everywhere .” “ There are a lot of insect varieties in the river , flying ants , PMD , Caddis , and Little Yellow Sallies are all starting to appear . We ’ re finding the fish are active on the pale morning dun nymphs which are usually a size 16 and are a light brown to tan coloring . We have some great patterns to represent these . Staff favorite . Crawfish and other baitfish are getting active as well so we are seeing more activity on streamers . Fish are still in medium to slow water at the moment , but they are venturing into faster water during warmer days and later in the afternoon .”
