In the Trinity River , the recreational fall-run Chinook season begins Sept . 1 . The fallrun Chinook basin in-river quota for this fall period is 2,119 adult Chinook salmon for the 2022 season . Klamath River fall-run Chinook numbers remain low , requiring limited opportunity for harvest while this stock of salmon rebounds from the effects of challenging environmental conditions . The bag limits will remain the same as in 2021 , with a two-fish daily bag limit , with no more than one fish over 23 inches ( such as one adult and one jack ). The possession limit remains the same at six fish , with no more than three fish over 23 inches ( effectively three daily bag limits ). The in-river recreational adult fall-run Chinook salmon quota is divided among four sectors in the Klamath River basin : Klamath River 3,500 feet downstream of Iron Gate Dam downstream to the Highway 96 bridge – 360 fish . Landlocked Steelhead Are Hitting

CLOVERDALE – Rich Crispi of TW Guide Service reported “ getting back into the guiding groove ” with a recent trolling trip out to Lake Sonoma for the beautiful landlocked steelhead this reservoir is renowned for . “ We landed 9 out of the 11 steelhead that we he hooked ,” he reported . “ 7 fish were 2 pounds or better , with the biggest going about 4 pounds . All of the fish were released unharmed . It really should be like that in that lake .... preservation is so key for survival .” Chris Aff scored big on his latest trip to Tomales Bay with an 18 pound striper and a 16 pound CA halibut , according to King ’ s Tackle in Guerneville . In between the wind there have been some small windows to fish and he nailed it that day . “ Regarding more local fishing , Johnsons Beach Dam and Vacation Beach have been installed on the Russian River . The county is also working on the VB summer crossing and that should be finished soon . Summer river bass action is on , so come on in for any needed tackle ,” King ’ s added .

Catfish , Stripers and Largemouths Provide Warm Weather Sport

BYRON – Rainbow trout fishing has slowed down with the warm weather , but the channel catfish and striped bass fishing remains in full swing at Los Vaqueros Reservoir . John , an angler from Fresno , topped recent catches by landing a 16.68 pound catfish while fishing an anchovy from shore in South Cove . Big striper honors for the week go to Anely , who caught a striper weighing 11.36 pounds on a Rapala from a rental boat in the South Cove . Although trout plants are over until the water cools down this fall , catfish plants are taking place .

1000 pounds of channel catfish were planted in the lake on July 8 , boosting the catches . “ A lot of anglers are catching stripers and catfish in the South Cove or off our fishing pier near the marina . The stripers are hitting anchovies on Caroline rigs and the catfish are hitting anchovies of chicken livers ,” advised Ryan Christ at the marina . “ Trout are much fewer now than before as the water temperature rises ,” he said . “ Today I saw two trout caught , one taken on a Carolina rig with PowerBait .” For largemouth bass averaging 12 to 16 inches long , anglers can fish off shore from the marina to Cowboy Cove off the rocky points . Most of the fish are hitting soft plastics ,. The water temperature is currently 70 degrees . The water level is currently at 94,000 acre feet . The water clarity has been good except for windy days . If you are looking to rent a boat it is always a good idea to call ahead to check current wind conditions .

Kokanee and Rainbows Lead Summer Trolling Parade

ANGELS CAMP – Nice holdover trout are being landed while trolling the main lake , as well as up towards Angels Cove , and above the 49 bridge . Speedy shiners are coming into play , along with Apex lures tipped with nightcrawlers . The Kokanee Power tournament was on July 9th featured a great turnout . The kokanee did not disappoint , as most teams had limits to choose their three best to weigh in . James , Jim , and Denise Franco took home first place money with 4.80 lbs . BASS : The bass bite going into mid-summer continues to produce some quality bass . Anglers using poppers , ploppers and spooks are getting bit . Change it up depending on conditions on the surface ; match your bait with the natural forage . CATFISH : Bodie Stevens of Vallecito was on an overnight trip , landing some nice catfish while sing chicken livers . They reported the best time for the bite was 8:30- 10:00 pm . CRAPPIE : Anglers searching for crappie are finding them near structure . Look for submerged trees and ones coming out of the water . There seems to be a shortage of shiners for fishing crappie ; we have not been able to get them for the last month from our supplier . Go to your crappie jig .
