Rockfish Offer Top Action Off Sonoma County Coast

BODEGA BAY – Rockfish and lingcod have provided the most consistent fishing off the Sonoma County Coast lately , with the salmon bite bouncing up and down . For example , a salmon trolling adventure on July 12 aboard the New Seas Angler by 21 fishermen produced 37 Chinook salmon up to 22 pounds , 10 Chinook salmon released , and 9 coho salmon released . On the following day , the 24 anglers aboard the boat landed 9 Chinook salmon up to 15 pounds , 240 rockfish and 1 lingcod weighing 12 pounds , reported Rick Powers of Bodega Bay Sportfishing . The 14 anglers aboard the New Sea Angler on July 14 caught 8 Chinook salmon up to 16 pounds , while the 12 anglers out on July 15 bagged 1 Chinook salmon weighing 17 pounds and 120 rockfish .. On July 16 , the New Seas Angler concentrated on rockfish , with the 14 anglers checking in with 140 rockfish and 10 lingcod up to 16 pounds . “ This morning with half of the predicted wind present , we ran straight offshore to hunt for kings ,” reported Merlin Kolb of Reel Magic Sportfishing on July 16 . “ Zack Murphy and his employees were aboard today . Early we fished just west of the Head in 45 fathoms for a couple of bites and 1 shaker .” “ Then , we ran south offshore from Elephant Rock and found better water color and temperature . Chinook Salmon Fishing Heats Up Again

EL GRANADA - The salmon have been hit or miss off Half Moon Bay lately , but the salmon light switch turned back on July 15 . “ We had limits of salmon for our 6 anglers , 12 salmon to 18 pounds , along with 30 hungry black rockfish that traded off , on July 15 ,” Wallace Klughers of the Queen of Hearts reported . On the next day , the great fishing continued . The 16 anglers caught 29 salmon up to 24 pounds . “ They say doing the same thing over and over expecting a different result is the definition of insanity , but that doesn ’ t hold true in the salmon world .
