He noted that bass anglers are reporting hooking lots of catfish while fishing chatterbaits . Other anglers in boats are hooking channel cats while fishing anchovies in deep water off Rattlesnake Island or mid-lake . The crappie are holding down deep at 25 feet and hardly anybody is targeting them . Bass fishermen are catching anglers a few crappie incidentally on swimbaits . For boat launching now in the low water conditions , Burress recommends launching at Fifth Street in Lakeport .

DAVIS LAKE

Trolling for Trout Up and Down

PORTOLA – The trout fishing for trollers has been up and down , depending on the day you fish at Lake Davis , according to Ed Dillard of Dillard ’ s Guided Fishing . “ On July 26 , we caught 3 trout at Lake Davis while trolling ,” said Dillard . “ We ’ re still using the tube fly down 6 feet . The surface water temperature was 73 degrees . There is still no dock at Honker Bay .” On July 27 , fishing was better on Davis . “ We caught 8 fish up to 18 inches ,” said Dillard . “ We anchored up and fished Power Bait and also trolled with Arctic Fox green tube

Lake Davis is holding 43,326 acre feet of water , 56 percent of capacity and 77 percent of average

EAGLE LAKE

Trout Moving Deeper

The Water temperature at Eagle Lake is now in the mid 70s on surface . The trout have moved to deeper water . Best bite is on the east side of the lake from Ronald McDonalds up to Miner ’ s Bay . Decent fish are being caught from 2.5-3lbs . Troll 15-25 feet deep with Thomas Boyant or Speedy Shiner lures in red / gold and Red dot frog patterns . Start at 15 and drop deeper as morning wears on . Best bite is early in the morning . Launching at the south shore is still no problem .
