varied on a day to day basis , with limits reported one day and under a fish per rod the next . For example , the Queen of Hearts checked in with 16 salmon up to 25 pounds for 8 anglers , full limits , on Friday , September 9 after trolling off the San Mateo County Cost . “ This is typical salmon fishing for this time of year ,” said Sherri Ingles at Half Moon Bay Sportfishing . “ There is a spurt of action here and there when some fish come through . The good news is that these fish are generally bigger kings . You have the chance to catch the fish of a lifetime , ranging from 25 to 40 pounds , now . The key is to put in some time and have a little bit of luck .” Rockfish action has been very consistent . “ Anglers are catching limits of rockfish every day ,” noted Ingles . “ Rockfishing doesn ’ t get much better than it is now . Some lingcod , cabezon and halibut have also been caught on the trips over the past month . The variety of rockfish caught depends on whether the boat goes to the edge of the deep water or fishes in the shallow water along the coast .” The latest rockfish adventure by the Queen of Hearts returned with 140 rockfish and 15 lingcod for 14
anglers . Michael Cabanas , Captain of the New Captain Pete , reported some great action on his shallow water rockcod trip on September 10 . His 5 anglers landed 4 lingcod up to 16 lbs ., 2 cabezon up to 8 lbs .. and some nice bottom dwellers , along with some nice size school fish .,” he stated .
