First Trout Plant of Season Goes Into Lake

Right after the plant , shore fishing with Kastmasters , Power Eggs , PowerBait and nightcrawlers was good , but most of the fish now are being caught by anglers fishing from rental boats while bait fishing or trolling lures . Channel catfish are still being caught , even though plants are over for this year . Chicken liver and anchovies are the top choices of bait for the catfish . There has

been a steady number of catfish being caught around the reservoir ., including at South Cove , Cowboy Cove and Oak Point . Anglers are still hooking striped bass around the reservoir while fishing cut anchovies or shad from shore or a boat . For example , Francisco and Miguel of Castro Valley teamed up to catch one hefty striper . Ralo and Hugo of Hayward also caught three quality stripers off while bait fishing from the marina pier . Fisherman cite Cowboy Cove and Howden Cove as two of the better sports for stripers . A reminder : stripers need to be 18 inches or more to be legal , If you are looking to rent a boat , it is always a good idea to call ahead to check current wind conditions .
