EAGLE LAKE

Fishing is as good as it gets !

We are catching and releasing fish unharmed to prolong our time on the water . The Eagle lake Trout are moving quickly into shallow water and we are following them in . Earlier this week we were targeting the fish in water 10-20 feet deep . By Sunday , the fish had moved shallower and we caught them in water 7-10 feet deep . In all water depths we are trolling our flies at 2-3 feet deep . Jay Fair flies in hot orange and All Round Best patterns are doing the most damage . Thomas Buoyant spoons , Shasta Tackle Cripplures and Yakima Bait Mag Lips are also doing very well in red , orange , and red dot frog colors . The best locations for us have been on the west side of the lake from Slough Point to Pelican point . Fish are moving into shallow water in other parts of the lake . I have good reports of fish taken off the Christie Day use area from shore , so it looks like bank anglers also are starting to get in on the action . I ’ ve seen multiple anglers fishing from the bank from the Youth Camp shoreline in the last few days also . This is a sign that the fish are in tight to shore . Fall Kings Finally Show at Hatchery

Photo courtesey of Bridget Looney , Colfax salmon were “ super slow ” to arrive , the Feather River Fish Hatchery is now seeing improved numbers of fish , said Anna Kastener , hatchery manager . “ We were really worried there for a while , but we have now taken approximately 3500 fall-run Chinooks ,” said Kastener . “ Our goal is to produce 6 million fall-run fish , but we have been asked to raise 1.7 million additional smolts for the drought . So far this season , we have taken close to 4 million eggs .”

The hatchery is done spawning spring-run Chinook for the year . Kastener said the facility took a total of 1485 spring-run fish , from which they gathered 3.3 million eggs . “ We should have no problem meeting our production goal for spring Chinooks ,” noted Kastener . Salmon fishing remains tough on the Feather . On his latest trip on the Feather River , Justin Leonard of Out Cast Guide Service reported one 18-pound salmon landed out of 3 hook-ups by 2 anglers . FOLSOM LAKE

5 Mph Speed Limit In Effect On Entire Lake

SACRAMENTO – Folsom Lake ’ s water level has dropped below elevation 400 ’ and the entire lake has a 5 mile per hour speed limit . Both the Hobie Cove at Brown ’ s Ravine and the low water ramp at Granite Bay are in operation , the Folsom Lake Marina reported . Relatively few anglers are fishing the lake for black bass or king salmon and rainbow trout at this time . Folsom Lake is holding 341,736 acre feet of water , 35 percent of capacity and 70 percent of average . The lake level is 394 feet in elevation , 70 feet from full . If you like to spoon for bass , Folsom Lake remains a “ great ” prospect now , despite the low level of the reservoir , said Don Paganelli of Paganelli ’ s Bass Fishing Experience . “ The bass are hitting Blade Runner spoons in threadfin shad patterns in the South Fork ,” said Paganelli . “ Boaters are hooking a mixture of largemouth , smallmouth and spotted bass to 4 pounds while fishing 15 to 35 feet deep over 40 to 50 feet of water .” Fishing has been tough for rainbow and king salmon over the past month . However , trollers working Speedy Shiners and other lures have reported catching good numbers of spotted , smallmouth and largemouth bass throughout the lake . One troller reported catching 12 bass on a recent fishing adventure on Folsom .
