The hatchery ’; s production goal is 7.5 million eggs and 6.4 million salmon smolts , according to Bill Smith , Mokelumne River Fish Hatchery manager . “ We ’ re just below average on the fall run and we have one more spawn to do . We took in a lot of fish in the upper twenties this season , the same big fish that anglers saw on the ocean this year ,” said Smith . A couple of hundred steelhead have returned to the hatchery to date . The staff plans to begin spawning steelhead on December 15 .

4005 are picking the lures on the drop , since both the salmon and bass are feeding on pondsmelt . “ My very first Landlocked Salmon was caught on a Z-Man Fishing Products PB & J Fatty ned rig on the fall on recent trip ,” reported Brent Steele on the Lake Oroville Fishing Reports Facebook Page . “ The best part was I got to watch it on livescope . I originally thought it was a huge bass . Either way I was still stoked . I landed and released 35 bass yesterday , all on Ned rigs and drop shots ranging from 20 ’ -50 ’ of water .” On another trip , Steele reported landing a little over 30 bass on Ned rigs and jigs . “ The water temperature was around 56 * and most fish were caught in 40 ’ -50 ’ of water until the sun went down and then I started catching them in 15 ’ - 20 ’ of water ,” he advised . Fly Fishing For Lahontan Cutthroats Improves Greatly

RENO - Following the storm system in early November , fly fishing at Pyramid Lake has improved greatly with shore fishing becoming the method of choice for a majority of anglers . As water temperatures have decreased , fish have moved into shallower water and are now targetable from the shoreline . Lahontan Cutthroat Trout feed in slightly deeper water adjacent to the shoreline , so look for depth changes that occur close to shore .
