LAKE ALMANOR
Both Bank Anglers and Trollers Landing Fish
CHESTER - After another week of cold dry weather , it appears we are finally going to see some precipitation in Plumas County . Beginning Wednesday , lasting through Thursday we have a winter storm watch in effect . We could see up to two feet of snow over the two days with chances of more snow Saturday and Sunday . Lake level is inching up daily and water temperatures are unchanged . Bank fishing pressure has improved around the dam , most of the fish caught are smaller with a few quality fish thrown in the mix . Fish are also being caught from shore at Hamilton Branch . Trollers are picking up quality fish around the dam and along the East Shore , slow trolling is the preferred method although fast trolling hardware and Rapala ’ s will also catch fish . Trolling pressure is light , and the incoming storms will limit accessibility for both boats and bank fishermen . Chains will be required for travel in Plumas County and the Canyon Dam boat ramp will be snowed in for a couple of days .

Angelo “ Curly ” Devincenzi was trolling the Main Lake Channel on Lake Camanche when he landed this monster rainbow trout . Excellent fishing is expected at Lake Camanche since more trout plants will continue .

FRESHWATER REPORTS

LAKE AMADOR
New Amador Gold Record of 13.04 Pounds Set
IONE – Stephen Bleacha from South San Francisco set a new Amador Gold trout record of 13.04 pounds on Nov . 21 at 7 a . m . near the blue dock . His hookjawed male lunker bit a silver Kastmaster . “ He and his family had only been here 20 minutes when the fish struck ,” said Lee Lockhart at the Lake Amador Resort . Then on Thanksgiving Thursday , Andre from Hayward caught another monster 13.04-pound Amagold trout on a silver Kastmaster from the right corner of the blue dock . It was an exact tie for the Amador Gold record caught by a few days before . Michael Carassus came all the way from France to catch a trophy Amador Gold and that ’ s exactly what he did ! “ Weighing in at 8.58l pounds , this
toad of a trout was caught on a night crawler off the blue dock on Nov . 28 ,” Lockhart stated .. The resort released a total of 1000 pounds of trout into the lake last week . The first plant of 600 pounds of Amador Golds went into the main lake by the dam on Wednesday , Nov . 23 “ Most of the Amador Golds are in the 4lb + range and many are over 10 pounds ,” said Lockhart . The resort released another 400 pounds , a mixture of Amador cutbows and rainbows . along with a couple of blues , in the 2-pound range on Friday . The fish included
50 fish tagged for the lake ’ s trout derby . “ The lake is getting colder , but the shorelines are coldest with the highest oxygen content , which is why most trout are being caught very close to shore and shallow in the top
5 ,” advised Lockhart . “ Lures and
PowerBait seem to be working the best to entice a bite and the best success has been near the Dam or by the spillway .” The lake is 36 ’ from full and the surface water temperature is 60 degrees , with a water clarity of 8 ’ and oxygen content of 6 mg / L .

AMERICAN RIVER
Fall Kings Move Into Hatchery
RANCHO CORDOVA – The salmon ladder at the Nimbus Fish Hatchery opened the morning of Monday , Oct . 31 , signaling the start of the spawning season on the American River . Since then , the facility has taken 9.8 million eggs in the goal of producing 5.5 million juvenile fall Chinook salmon , including 4.5 million of the hatchery ’ s normal goal and 1 million extra fry because of the drought . “ We plan to spawn for wo more weeks ,” said Gary Novak , hatchery manager . “ The egg quality was low begin to with because of the warm water , but since them we haven ’ t a problem . The water temperature is currently 54 to 55 degrees . Until recently , the Bureau of Reclamation was using the power bypass at valve at Folsom Dam to release the coldest water .” He said 61 steelhead have showed up at the hatchery to date . “ Most are Central Valley fish , but we ’ ve seen two Eel River-strain females in 5 lb . range and one male so far ,” he added . Fishing for steelhead has been tough , but fishing should pick up as more winter-run steelhead move into the open section of the river below the SMUD powerline at the southwest boundary of Ancil Hoffman Park .
