Rainbows To 12 Pounds Reward Camanche Anglers

BURSON – The trout planting season is in full swing at Lake Camanche – and anglers are hooking good numbers of trout from the North Shore , South Shore and the South Trout Pond . During the latest plant at Camanche , 1,000 pounds went into the lake at the South Shore Ramp , 1,000 pounds at the North Shore Ramp and a combined 1,000 pounds into the South Shore Pond . Anglers have reported catching a bunch of trophy trout at the reservoir lately . Big fish honors go to Marcel Schlat , who landed a 12 lb . rainbow while fishing in the South Shore Pond , according to the Lake Camanche Recreation Company . The Tamez Family from Turlock also experienced success at the pond . They teamed up to catch an 8.86 b . rainbow on a Rapala lure . Cody Pate demonstrated his angling prowess by catching a 9.40 lb . rainbow at the trout pond . Russel from Galt also landed a 9.79 lb . rainbow while fishing at the trout pond . Trollers fishing the main lake also bagging quality trout . Angelo “ Curly ” Devincenzi was trolling in the main lake channel when he landed an 8.7-pound rainbow .

In addition to the rainbows , bank anglers and trollers have also been catching some quality lightning trout at the lake and pond . Nate Kelsch of Big Nate ’ s Guide Service reported top-notch trout fishing on his latest trip to Camanche . “ Today we had Logan out on Lake Camanche for some rainbow trout action and it was DONKEY trout kind of day , with a limit of largest rainbows . The largest fish tangled 3 lines and made us all pretty nervous , but Logan prevailed and won the battle which is by far his new personal best !” said Kelsch . “ We fished down to 23 ft and around structure is where we found the best success today . Large baits , spoons and Rapalas get the most action . If you want a chance at a trophy Lassen Rainbow and some great table fare , now is the time ,” he concluded .

Topwater Trolling and Bait Fishing Trout Take Over

OREGON HOUSE – I ’ ve got a lot a great fish to share , but long time Collins Lake fisherman & guide Cal Kellogg has been working the lake most days of the week lately . Cal took the time to write a great report that I ’ d like to share with you all : “ Howdy folks Cal Kellogg here . I spent Thanksgiving Weekend guiding trout anglers at Collins Lake . The conditions are changing at the lake . First and foremost there are lots of trout to be caught including strong numbers of lightning trout . My clients have been catching lightnings daily and so have other folks , both from the bank and from boats . We are also seeing lightnings

Josh and Logan , of Valley Springs , caught their limit of stripers while fishing with Barebones Guide Service . Spoons , mudsuckers , and minnows have been the ticket to landing quality stripers .

The water temperature is declining about one degree every 48 hours at this point with shorter days and colder nights . The surface temperature is currently 52 degrees at dawn and it pushes up to 54 in shallow areas during the afternoon . Clarity remains outstanding for this time of the year with a solid 6 feet of visibility . Both trolling and bait fishing are producing fish , but overall I ’ d say bait fishing is the most productive method . In terms of trolling I caught fish both trolling quickly at 3 mph with various spoons , flies and Rapalas . Slow trolling at 1.8 mph was a

better option with flies , Trout Trix Worms , Trigger Minnows , Grubs and threaded nightcrawlers . You ’ ll mark a lot of deep fish while trolling , but the most responsive trout are holding in the top 10 feet of the water column . Limits and near limits have been the rule for anglers trolling from Cal Kellogg ’ s pontoon boat . The best hours for trolling have between 10 o ’ clock in the morning and 2 in the afternoon . This is when the water is at its warmest and when the trout are most active and willing to chase moving lures .
