PYRAMID LAKE
Lahontan Cutthroats Are Hitting Midges , Streamers and Nymphs
TRUCKEE – Pyramid Lake has been fishing pretty fair again this week , and while the fish are certainly showing signs of entering spawn , there are still quite a few fish still feeding aggressively . On warmer days the midge bite has been great , with great activity in the morning , a lull mid morning , and again kicking up again after noon . The colder days have made for better days to use your sinking lines and streamers , or even balanced leeches . By this time in the season the fish have seen a lot of flies , so we encourage you to reach deep into your box and fish some curveball flies , stuff that you tied up a few years ago that ’ s been sitting in your box for too long , stuff out of your river box , dragonfly imitations , scuds , caddis , just different . We had a great day this week fishing pheasant tails and hare ’ s ears , while the rest of the beach wasn ’ t doing quite as well on midges . For late season streamers , we recommend using flies with more of a natural look , less flash , natural colors , and smaller than you would fish mid-winter . Also with the fish in shallower water , use a slower sinking line such as an intermediate sink to not drag your

flies in the sand . We expect Pyramid to begin to slow down in another week or two as the majority of the fish enter spawn , slowing the bite down for a few weeks , but if the lake stay cold and fish remain in shallow late May , expect some great late season fishing out here !

FEATHER / SACRAMENTO RIVERS
Striper Angling In Full Swing at Colusa
COLUSA - Stripers are still being caught on the Feather River , but the focus of most anglers has shifted to the Sacramento River around Colusa . “ On my latest striper fishing trip on the Sacramento at Colusa , the fishing was really good ,” said Robert Weese of Northern California Guide Service . “ Five of us landed about 30 fish and kept10 nice keepers ranging from 7 to 15 pounds .” “ We were drifting minnows on the Sacramento River above and below Colusa ,” he said . “ The water was dropping and warming up like 56 degrees . Prior to that it was 54 degrees . We should see great striper fishing through end of May , based on the current conditions .” Weese has also been finding success fishing for wild rainbow trout on the upper section of the Sacramento On his latest trout trip , his anglers caught and released 25

RIO VISTA / DELTA
San Joaquin , Sacramento Stripers Are Hitting
RIO VISTA - Delta striper action has been “ really good , but the stripers are spawning now and starting to leave the area ,” reported Mark Wilson , striper trolling expert . On Friday , April 28 , Wilson , Barry Johnson and Barry Nelson caught 21 stripers to 8 pounds while trolling both the Joaquin River from the mouth of the Mokelumne River and Sacramento River off the West Bank . They hooked 14 keepers and seven shakers , keeping 6 fish to 8 pounds , while trolling with deep-diving Yo-Zuri Crystal Minnow lures . “ We caught some fish in the morning , then moved around until we found another nice school of fish ,” he noted . On the previous day , Wilson and Craig and Mike DeNately caught 55 fish , including 32 shakers and 24 keepers , keeping six stripers . Their largest fish weighed 13 pounds . They fished the same locations as on Friday with Yo-Zuri lures . On Thursday , April 20 , Dave Hammond of Delta Pro Fishing , Ernie Marlan of Elk Grove and Ron Retzlaff landed a dozen keeper stripers while fishing on the San Joaquin River from Prisoners Point to San Andreas Shoals . “ We caught and released three double digit-sized fish weighing 10 , 12 and 14 pounds and three smaller fish ,” said Hammond . “ We kept six fish , including a 9 and 6 pounder , and the rest measured 20 to 22 inches . When we left , the fish were
