Trollers Working Hard for Kokanee , Kings

NAPA – Kokanee fishing is still hit-or-miss , while landlocked king salmon fishing has slowed down a bit at Lake Berryessa , according to Alex Osenenko at Sweeney ’ s Sports Shop . “ Troll Speedy Shiners behind a dodger at a depth of 30-70 feet ,” advised Osenenko . “ Another option is to troll anchovies behind a bright-colored dodger using a Pro-Troll Roto Chip electronic bait holder . The Narrows is the best place to start , but you may have to cover some water to find them . The trout bite is fair .” “ The algae bloom that is occurring right now has dispersed the baitfish , and the fish are scattered . You ’ ll have to put in some effort to find them . As the bloom disperses , fishing should improve significantly over the coming weeks ,” he tipped . In Putah Creek below Monticello , fly fishing for rainbow trout is “ fair to slow ,” Osenenko rated . “ Fish early to beat the heat ,” he advised . “ We received a report that changing midge nymph patterns / colors equaled hookups . Trollers Lay Into Kokanee Salmon

DOBBINS – The sizzling summer kokanee salmon bite continues at Bullards Bar Reservoir . “ It doesn ’ t get much easier at Bullards Bar for kokanee ,” reported Bret Brady of Bare Bones Guide Service . “ We caught limits in a couple hours on our last trip while trolling at 40 to 50 feet deep .. Pink and orange were the best lure colors . Both hoochies and kokanee flies behind RB Tackle Dodgers were the killer combination .” Craig Newton of Willfish Bait and Tackle confirmed the top-notch kokanee fishing at Bullards Bar . “ The fish are pretty much everywhere on the lake ,” said Newton . “ Anglers are doing best while trolling at 40 to 60 feet deep with dodger / hoochie and dodger / spinner combinations . The top colors are pink , orange and green . The fish average 12 inches long , but some are measuring over 13 inches .” Bullards Bar is holding 910,963 acre-feet of water , 94 percent of capacity and 116 percent of average . Englebright Reservoir is a solid prospect for trout . Anglers should troll with Rapalas , Needlefish , Cripplures and nightcrawlers behind dodgers for the scrappy rainbows . Englebright is holding 64,509 acre feet of water , 92 percent of capacity and 98 percent of average .
