Trollers Are Nailing Mackinaw While Vertical Jigging is Tempting Kokanee

Lake Tahoe - The mackinaw continue to bite through the dog days of summer . The key to having a consistent bite is changing the color of your lures according to the conditions you are fishing in . For example , in low light conditions , I ’ ll have a lure that glows a little bit . If we are having bright blue skies , then I ’ ll throw out something that has chrome on it . Also , moving around the lake hitting your honey holes is key . Chase Green caught some nice size Mackinaw as we were trolling right off the bottom of the lake . The fish are stacked anywhere from 100-240 feet . If they aren ’ t biting , then I would not spend a lot of time with them . You ’ ll find right now that there are a lot of inactive fish around but the key to finding your biters is covering ground by trolling . You want to have as many eyeballs as you can get looking at your lures . The Kokanne bite has been solid in the south shore . People fishing for them have been catching their daily limits by trolling or vertical jigging for them . If you have not eaten high sierra kokanne before , then I would highly recommend you going out and

catching some for dinner . They are some of the best eating inland fish you will ever eat .

Lure Tossers Working For Stripers

YUBA CITY – Lure tossers and bait fishermen are still catching some quality stripers on the Feather and Sacramento rivers , although the majority of the fish have moved down river to the Delta and San Francisco Bay . “ One angler fishing on the Yuba River caught and released a 45 lb . striper while casting a trout pattern Sneaky Pete G-Rat swimbait ,” said Armando Michalski of Johnson ’ s Bait and Tackle . “ Another fisherman landed a 35 lb . striper while fishing on the Feather River with a G-Rat swimbait . Bait fishermen are also catching some stripers while using nightcrawlers and cut sardines and anchovies .” On the Sacramento , most of the stripers have already migrated downriver also , but some fish are still being caught from Lovey ’ s Landing in Meridian up to Princeton . Boaters are hooking the fish while using the same offerings on the Feather – cutbaits and nightcrawlers during the day and swimbaits early and late in the day .
