Kokanee Limits Hit The Deck

DOBBINS – If you like to catch a 10 fish limit of kokanee salmon , it ’ s hard to beat fishing at Bullards Bar Reservoir now . “ This morning I had John , his son George , and Demetrie and his son Alex out on Bullards Bar for what turned on to be an EPIC bite ,” reported Nate Kelsch of Big Nate ’ s Guide Service after his latest fishing adventure . “ They requested a late start , and wanted to be done early , which as well all know can be a tough feat . But I said let ’ s go for it and we landed on a school of very nice kokanee and they were eager to play .” “ We put our lines down at 7:30 am and wrapped up 4 limits in exactly 3 hours at 10:30 am ,” said Kelsch . “ We used Paulina Peak Minnows spinners and Flutterbugs at depths between 30 and 65 ft .. Before we knew it , we had 40 + fish and smiles and high fives all around !” Bret Brady of Bare Bones Guide Service reported top-notch fishing for kokanee at Bullards Bar also , with fast limits of quality kokanee on every trip . “ The girls just smashed the kokanee on Bullards Tuesday morning ,” said Bret Brady of Bare Bones Guide Service after his most recent fishing adventure . “ The best fishing was off the points close to shore , still at 45 to 55 feet .” Bullards Bar is holding 848,067 acre-feet of water , 88 percent of capacity and 113 percent of average . Englebright Reservoir is a solid prospect for rainbow and an occasional brown trout . Anglers should troll with Rapalas , Needlefish , Cripplures and nightcrawlers behind dodgers for the scrappy trout . Englebright is holding 66,728 acre feet of water , 95 percent of capacity and 101 percent of average .

Rainbows Lead August Angling Parade

BURSON - Fishing pressure has been light for trout and other fish species on Lake Camanche lately , but that didn ’ t stop Nate Kelsch of Big Nate ’ s Guide Service and clients from catching a bunch of trout on a recent trip to the Mother Lode reservoir on the Mokelumne river . “ This morning I had returning clients Jordan and his father Carl out to chase some big rainbows and they hit the jackpot ,” said Kelsch . “ They wanted to fish Camanche , so I figured , why not !?” “ I haven ’ t ran a trip there in a while , but we picked up right where we left off with early limits of rainbows with Jordan and Carl landing their limits by 830 am . We picked up another 7 rainbows for my ‘ Captain in Training ’ daughter Milani , and I by 10:30 am .” “ These were all solid rainbows with some Donkeys in the mix ,” he explained . “ We went 17 for 24 hookups in 4.5 hours . With all that being said , yes , the trout have copepods , don ’ t let anyone report and tell you they don ’ t .” “ They scrape off after a nice ice bath and running a sharp blade across the skin , and the fish cut BEAUTIFUL ,” added Kelsch . “ We fished all over the lake pulling Optimizer spoons down to 57ft at speeds up to 3.5 mph .”

Caples Lake Kicks Out Rainbows and Browns

KIRKWOOD – The California Department of Fish and Wildlife finally planted trout in Caples Lake on Thursday , July 27 and fishing is on the upswing , according to Joe Voss at the Caples Lake Resort . “ The CDFW stocked 800 pounds of rainbow trout in Caples and another 800 pounds in the West Fork of the Carson River ,” said Voss . “ Both people in boats and from share are catching rainbows at Caples .” Anglers fishing from boats have also caught a few browns in the 2 to 3 lb . range . Boaters have been also catching some mackinaw trout while casting Panther Martins . Bank anglers are seeing the best action tossing out Power Bait and nightcrawlers in the Woods Creek inlet and Immigrant Bay . The biggest mackinaw reported this year to date was 9 pounds . Voss said Silver Lake is also producing some rainbow trout for anglers fishing nightcrawlers , Power Bait and lures from shore . Some
