Catfish , Stripers Top Angling Menu Until Fall Trout Plants Began

LIVERMORE – Until the water temperature cools down at Los Vaqueros Reservoir , the lake management will continue to plant channel catfish instead of rainbow trout . The water temperature at the lake at press time was a toasty 77 degrees . The latest plant of 1,000 pounds of catfish from Tsai Enterprises went into the reservoir on August 22 . The previous plant of 1,000 pounds of channel cats went in on August 10 and another plant went of 1,000 pounds went in on July 26 . That amounts to a total of 3,000 pounds of catfish planted this summer . The channel cats are hitting anchovies , nightcrawlers and chicken livers in the South Cove and elsewhere on the lake . Big fish honors go to Saul Aboyles , who landed a 19.86 lb . catfish while soaking an anchovy in the South Cove . Bank anglers are hooking the stripers while tossing out anchovies in the South Cove and off the fishing pier and south cove . The keeper fish average 18 to 21 inches long , but much bigger fish are out there . The water level is currently at 125,000 acre feet . Boating has been limited due to wind . OROVILLE – Fishing pressure has been light for black bass and king salmon at Lake Oroville , but the fishing is expected to pick up with the arrival of cooler weather this fall . Black bass fishing is your top prospect at this time . “ After being skunked on kings the last 8 trips out , I finally got a 13 incher to bite a white hoochie , tipped with an anchovy , behind a Tornado Flasher 8 ” green double sided Slingblade . 45 ft deep at 2.0 mph ,” reported Dave Koistenen on the Lake Oroville Facebook page after a recent trip . “ I was fishing the Limesaddle end of the lake . “ “ Some of the bait balls were as big as my boat .
