STAMPEDE / PROSSER / BOCA RESERVOIRS
Anglers Switch to Cutthroats , Macks & Smallmouths
TRUCKEE – Most trollers have left Stampede Reservoir as the fish get ready to spawn in the Little Truckee River . The fish have transitioned into their dark fall spawning colors , with kypes forming on the males . There are also Lahontan cutthroat trout and mackinaws that you can target , but again , fishing pressure by trollers is very light . Prosser Reservoir is producing top-notch Lahontan cutthroat fishing for kayak anglers , according to Cal Kellogg of fishhuntshoot . com . “ I experienced great fishing at my last kayak fishing adventure at Prosser ,” said Kellogg . “ I caught a limit of fish from 12 to 18 inches long while trolling Ridgeback spoons in firetiger , gold , rainbow and other bright colors at 25 to 30 feet deep . I found the top action around the corners of the dam . The surface water temperature was in the middle sixties .” “ Fall conditions are slow to settle in on our local stillwater fisheries ,” reported Miles Zimmerman of Trout Creek Outfitters . “ The fishing for smallmouth bass around Prosser and Stampede remains a little sluggish for the time being and the cutthroat are still holding in deep water . While the trio of Stampede , Boca , and Prosser continue to work off the heat from the dog day of summer and transition back into fall fishing conditions , the higher elevation lakes continue to fish extremely well .” “ Cold water is plentiful at higher elevations , where patches of snow can still be found . The brook trout appear to be getting ready for their fall spawn , as they are fired up and
