extra aggressive . Rainbows , browns and brookies can all be found cruising shallow beaches in the morning before retreating past the first shelf to continue feeding throughout the day ,” Zimmerman advised . “ The fishing in our high elevation lakes should continue to get better right up until the snow falls , making these lakes inaccessible . There is still plenty of time to get out and hike in the backcountry , but don ’ t wait too long ,” he concluded .

LAKE TAHOE
Phenomenal Mackinaw Fishing On Lake Tahoe
Lake Tahoe - With fall upon us , Lake Tahoe mackinaw fishing has been red hot . My last trip out we had nothing smaller than 3lbs in the fish box and we are getting plenty of fish up to 7lbs . The water temps are dropping and pretty soon here we will be doing combo trips for rainbow trout and mackinaw . As most people have pulled their boats off the lake , we will still be here all winter long . I love it when you have the lake to yourself and the calmness you feel over the lake is priceless . The temps over the weekend had a high of 46 degrees and as I am sitting here at the dock writing this review first thing in morning my hands are completely numb . Kokanee season has come to an end and Taylor creek is starting to fill up with lots of fish . Now is the time to get out and enjoy some great fishing so put those rods back in the boat and wear some warm clothes . Tight lines everyone .

Fishing has been changing , but it ’ s not bad . We ’ re still fishing mostly in the main body and on occasion traveling up the arms . The fish are starting to head up the arms and up the water column . They ’ re also changing their feeding times . Most days have short bite windows which is usually starting at daylight and really slowing down after 11:00am . The great news is that we are still getting multiple limits in that time frame . We ’ ve been catching some fish on the surface , but only in the morning . Mainly fishing in that 60 ’ to 90 ’ right now . The trout are really clean with very little copepods and meat is still really red . We ’ re still fishing in that 2.3mph range and slower after we hook up . It hasn ’ t really made much difference right now whether you ’ re hitting the points or trolling over deep water . Finding bait balls has been the key to success . On most day the fish are not picky about the color of spoons but I ’ m starting to use more copper and gold backed spoons but silver backed are still getting lots of action . This combination is producing nice fish in the 3lb and 4lb on every trip . We ’ ve already got our lead core and snap wieghts setups ready to go . We ’ ll be running them more in the early morning and seeing if we can pick up a few on top . Can ’ t wait the top water fishing to get into full swing . Lots of people including us are catching juvenile Kings , like the 8 ” to 10 ” size range . Jeff Goodwin ’ s Guide Service has caught some bigger Kings . We ’ re also starting to see more browns being caught as well . And we ’ re going to start seeing more brown action coming up this winter . Check out the next issue and see what lake conditions and are like .
