on the day of the plant while bait fishing from shore . Another angler weighed in a five fish limit of trout the following day while bait fishing from shore in the South Cove . Shore anglers can expect to experience the most success using garlic scented PowerBait and night crawlers in the South Cove and off the pier near the marina . Trolling with spoons and minnow imitation lures from a rental boat in the backs of coves is also worth a try . On October 28 , the Saturday after the trout plant , the lake hosted a C . A . S . T . for Kids event designed to provide children with disabilities , ages 7 – 17 , the opportunity to enjoy a quality outdoor recreational experience through the sport of fishing . Anglers targeting channel cats are fishing chicken livers in the South Cove and elsewhere on the lake . The catfish being caught average 2 to 5 pounds , but bigger fish are out there swimming in the lake . Successful catfish anglers include Andy Lin , Kobe Nguyen , Mike Nguyen , and Jonathon Giang from San Jose , who caught a total of 8 hefty channel cats on a recent venture to the reservoir . They fished with chicken liver on the south side of the lake in a rental boat . Bank anglers continue to hook striped bass while tossing out anchovies in the South Cove and off the fishing pier and south cove . The keeper fish average 18 to 21 inches long . King Salmon , Spotted Bass Are Both Biting

OROVILLE – The king salmon are still biting at Lake Oroville , while the fishing for spotted bass remains productive . On his most recent trip to Oroville , Dave Koistinen reported getting into the kings right when setting down . “ I had a lot of bites early , but no big fish bites . An 8 inch 360 Tornado Flasher with the white hoochie tipped with anchovy was the best offering ,” he reported . “ The east wall continues to hold fish . Derek Prestesater was my guest today on the boat , catching his first landlock king and spotted bass ,” he stated . Most of the fish were on the east wall at 80 to 90 ft deep .” On his previous trip to the lake , Koistinen reported that the king bite was slower than it had been two weeks before .

“ I landed 4 fish for 4 hook-ups , but I got an adult king measuring 23 inches this time . The east wall produced more bites but the dam produced the big bite ,” he revealed .

“ I used the 8 inch green Tornado Flasher with the white hoochy tipped with anchovy . The cut plug got bites also . The fish hit at 80 to 90 ft . deep .” Koistinen also fished a couple hours for bass , reporting good action while fishing with deep-diving crankbaits at 20 ft . deep . The Bidwell Canyon , Spillway , Loafer Creek , Lime Saddle and Enterprise boat ramps are all open to launching , according to the Lake Oroville State Recreation Area . The Foreman Creek , Nelson Bar and Stringtown car top ramps are also open to boat launching . Trollers and Fly Tossers Bag Large Lahontan Cutthroats

RENO - Trollers and fly fishers are picking up quality Pilot Peak Lahontan cutthroats as the weather gets cooler and fishing improves . “ Mike Peckman and I caught and released 10 fish from slot-size to 12 pounds on my most recent trip to Pyramid ,” said Craig Newton of Willfish Bait and Tackle . “ We trolled with Lyman and GVF Dragon lures at 40 to 60 feet deep from south of the island to Dago Bay at a speed of 2.8 to 3.5 mph . We got on the lake at 9 a . m . and got off at 3 p . m .,” Newton stated . “ We have seen the bite at Pyramid continue to improve and with our first storm system moving through in a few weeks we expect things to get even better as soon as early next week ,” reported Miles Zimmerman of Trout Creek Outfitters . “ The fish are being found higher up in the water column , and float tube anglers are catching trout in 8-12 feet of water . While they remain spread out in terms of both locations on the lake and depth ( some are still down as deep as 30 feet ), this is a great indicator for the shore bite being right around the corner ,” he
