“ We trolled spoons – Disco Minnow Jrs . in the Captain America color ,” said Kellogg . “ The best action is still in front in the dam . I also caught a couple of fish while jigging a Kastmaster .” “ We caught and released over 30 fish ,” he noted . “ The biggest rainbow measured 18 inches long , while the Lahontan cutthroats went up to 17 inches . We also caught a 2 lb . smallmouth bass .”

SHASTA LAKE
Trout Bite Tough But Expected To Pick Up
Shasta Lake - Fall is here and Shasta is sitting around 53 ’ to crest and 63 ° in the morning . Fishing is tough right now for most anglers and the fish are pretty scattered but we are finding that the fish are leaving the main body and going up the arms of the lake . We ’ ve been prospecting with different areas and depths and have found most of the rainbows midway up a few of the lake arms . We ran deep with no luck and had some success around 30 ’ range running pink and light orange spoons . We just started to get some pretty cold mornings , breezy days and even some cold fronts blow through which is making fishing a little tough . However , the cold weather is definitely going to help these fish make some decisions and move up to the top of the water column . I am confident that the bite will pick up in the next few weeks because last year at this time we were averaging about two limits a trip but that has not been the case this year . We did go looking for king salmon one morning and found some 2yr old fish around 90-100 ’ and marked several more but shortly after sunrise they scattered and we couldn ’ t find them again until the next morning . We ’ re done with king fishing for this year unless something changes .

LAKE TAHOE
Mackinaw , Browns , Rainbows and Cutthroat ’ s Are All Chomping
Lake Tahoe - Winter has showed up for Lake Tahoe but the fishing is beyond red hot . We are now doing combo trips for Mackinaw , brown trout , cutthroat ’ s , and rainbows . On my latest trip out , we caught all four species that Lake Tahoe has to offer . These rainbows and browns are hard fighting acrobatic fish that love to jump out of the water . This is my favorite time to fish the lake because the rainbows and browns are pulling in close to the shallows . We have been trolling for all species and the bite has been nonstop . There is a certain kind of calmness and peacefulness you feel when you are the only boat on the lake . If you are looking to catch some big rainbows and browns , then now is the time to go out and catch a trophy fish . Big rainbows and browns in the 6-9lb range are not uncommon to catch while out trolling . I wouldn ’ t hang up your tackle and put away the boat just yet .

TRINITY RIVER
Half Pounders and Adult Steelhead Reward Autumn Anglers
LEWISTON - Lots of half pounders are now showing in the Trinity River system , with adult steelhead mixed in , according to Brian Flint of Trout Vision , a fly fishing guide service . “ There are good amounts of adult spawning king salmon , so the bead bite is on ,” stated Flint . “ Reports of adult steelhead are coming from throughout the river , so if you have a favorite spot to fish , you can ’ t go wrong .”

“ Indicator nymphing with stoneflies , eggs , and attractor patterns are all working ,” he reported . “ There are some reports of fish being caught on the swing lower down . Bycatches of brown trout are being reported as well .” “ We are off to a great start this year . If you are looking for a scenic float with a wild steelhead up to 30 ” this would be a great idea ,” stated Flint at www . troutvisionllc . com . Anglers are reminded that no fishing for Chinook salmon is allowed this year because of the low ocean abundance of Klamath- Trinity River fall-run Chinook salmon forecasted earlier this year by the National Marine Fisheries Service . Releases to the Trinity River from Lewiston Dam are now 300 cfs .
TRUCKEE / LITTLE TRUCKEE RIVERS
Great Flows , Active Trout and Empty Rivers Reward Fall Anglers
TRUCKEE - Truckee has seen some unseasonably warm weather this week . This will be forecasted to change starting early next week with two weak , but cold , storm fronts moving in . There ’ s is a small chance of a snow rain mix dropping from the latter storm , a reminder from Mother Nature that these beautiful fall days can ’ t last forever .
