Deep Water Anglers Nail Offshore Rockfish , Lingcod

BODEGA BAY – Rockfish and lingcod action in the deep water continues to be excellent when the New Angler is able to get out during the periods of good weather . Anglers are restricted to fishing for shelf rockfish species in water over than 50 fathoms until the end of the groundfish season on December 31 . The New Sea Angler out of the Bodega Bay Sportfishing Center returned with 130 rockfish and 5 lingcod up to 14 pounds for 13 anglers on its latest trip to Rittenberg Bank on October 19 , reported Captain Rick Powers . “ The lingcod fishing was slower than it has been due to the groundswell ,” he stated . The previous bottomfish adventure on October 14 yielded 190 rockfish and 17 lingcod up to 18 pounds for the 19 anglers . Another deep water adventure on October produced 210 rockfish and 36 lingcod up to 22 pounds for 21 anglers . On an offshore trolling trip with flat , glassy weather on October 15 , the 3 anglers aboard the New Sea Angler landed 2 bluefin tuna to 100 pounds of the 5 that they hooked . “ In all of my years out of Bodega , I never thought this day would happen ,” Powers stated . “ It was a great day .” Before the wind prevented the boat getting out for a number of days , anglers were catching limits of “ extremely large ” vermilion , bocaccio , yellowtail , widow and other rockfish at 320 to 330 feet deep , along with limits of hefty lingcod , while fishing different spots each day , said Powers . The lingcod average 14 to 16 pounds , with lots of fish in the high teens and lower twenties . Anglers are using jigs for the rockfish and chrome bars and swimbaits for the lingcod .

Offshore Fishing for Shelf and Slope Rockfish Yields Limits

EL GRANADA – Limits of quality deep water rockfish are the rule for anglers departing on trips out of the Princeton Harbor . The Queen of Hearts returned to the harbor with 190 rockfish and 1 lingcod for 19 anglers on its most recent trip out of the Princeton Harbor on October 28 , the Half Moon Bay Sportfishing Center reported . On a previous trip on October 15 , the 10 anglers aboard the boat landed 100 rockfish . . Another offshore adventure aboard the Queen of Hearts on October 14 produced 160 rockfish for 16 anglers . “ Crab season will start on time this year starting November 4 ,” said Michael Cabanas of the New Captain Pete . “ We still have plenty of room for offshore rockcod fishing
