AMERICAN RIVER / SACRAMENTO AREA
Sacramento River at Rio Vista and Sherman Island . Few anglers have been fishing for catfish in the Sacramento River and adjacent sloughs lately , due to the closure of salmon season , but there are both white catfish and channel catfish available for those fishing in the Sacramento River in the Sacramento area at spots including Discovery Park , Miller Park , Garcia Bend and Freeport . Use clams , chicken livers and sardines for maximum catfish success .

LAKE BERRYESSA
Trollers Battle Big Rainbows Near Surface
WINTERS – The great bite for big rainbow trout continues at Lake Berryessa , but the fishing pressure has definitely picked up . “ Today I had Joseph and Travis out for another action packed day on Berryessa ,” reported Nate Kelsch of Big Nate ’ s Guide Service . “ These 2 went 12 for 19 , keeping 6 beautiful , fat rainbows in the process .” “ I burned up a lot of fuel today to locate fish , because time after time I was cut off while trolling , or had other boats so close that our downriggers almost touched !! Pretty crazy ,” he noted . “ When this happens , no one is going to catch anything , and like I ’ ve said time and time again , it ’ s always better to find your own fish that haven ’ t been harassed and once it again it paid off . There are fish all over the lake , and they spread throughout the water column and each day the better bite is happening closer and closer to surface .,” he advised . “ Pay attention to what ’ s happening on your graph , look for fish busting bait balls on the surface and power troll your presentations between 3 and 4 mph ,” he tipped . On his previous trip , he reported ,

“ This morning I had Jim and Lisa out on Berryessa for another morning full of action and more limits of trout . I ’ m definitely feeling blessed to be on such a great bite .” “ With that being said ., our landing ratio was a bit rough today as the fish were launching out of the water , and acting crazy with this cooler water , but in the end , this awesome couple pulled it off , going 14 for 28 with 4 juvenile kings released , before brunch .” “ Boat pressure is getting heavy , so I ’ m constantly having to switch
things up to get our fish , but there are fish all over the lake , and there ’ s more than one way to skin a cat . Trolling spoons and keeping presentations in the middle of bait balls were key to our success ,” he concluded . Berryessa is holding 2,227,221 acre feet of water , 77 percent of capacity and 108 percent of average .

BULLARDS BAR / ENGLEBRIGHT LAKES
Boaters Are Catching ‘ Next Year ’ s Kokanee ’
DOBBINS – Fishing pressure at Bullard ’ s Bar Reservoir continues to be very light for kokanee salmon , rainbow trout and spotted bass . The mature kokanee are now spawning in the North Fork of the Yuba River and the lake ’ s other tributaries . However , a few anglers are catching “ next year ’ s kokanee :” in the 9 to 10 inch range while trolling orange hoochies and spinners , tipped with white corn , at 35 to 45 feet deep , reported Craig Newton at Willfish Tackle . Bullards Bar is holding 676,536 acre-feet of water , 70 percent of capacity and 115 percent of average . Likewise , few anglers have been on the water at Englebright Reservoir fishing for trout . However , this is generally a great time of year to hook rainbows and an occasional brown while trolling with Rapalas , Needlefish , Cripplures and nightcrawlers behind dodgers . Expect to hook holdover rainbows in the 12 to 18 inch range . Englebright is holding 66,885 acre feet of water , 96 percent of capacity and 104 percent of average .

LAKE CAMANCHE
Fall Trout Plants Expected Soon
BURSON – The angling scene has been quiet lately at Lake Camanche lately . You can expect things to change after the surface water temperature cools down and rainbow trout plants begin later this autumn . Both shore anglers and boat fishermen will able to target the trout as they move closer to shore . “ Plant season is drawing close ,” the Lake Camanche Recreation
