Monster Trout Roam The Lake

IONE -- If it ’ s giant trout that you ’ re after , Lake Amador is the place to go . Chris Spears of Elk Grove topped recent catches with a 15.22 lb . trout caught on the Spillway during a late December trip to the reservoir . He was fishing with nightcrawlers on the spillway when the beast hit . That wasn ’ t the only giant trout caught at Lake Amador recently . Jose Chavez from Hayward landed a 13.76 lb . cutbow . While using nightcrawlers in Jackson Creek . Anthony landed an 11.92 lb . trout and Ricky Marquez bagged a 13.16 lb . trout while tossing Mini Jigs from shore near the clubhouse . Brian Sackinshy also had a great day when he landed a 10.24 lb and a 6.30 lb Cutbow while tossing out a white crappie jig in “ his secret cove .” He reported catching 25 fish total , but only kept 2 and released the others . In addition to the trout , some crappie are also showing at Amador . Just ask Rana Noah and Kris Pettitt from Sacramento , who used nightcrawlers near the spillway . During Rana ’ s s 1st time fishing at Amador , they caught a whopper 11.64 lb . Cutbow , 5 other rout , and 3 crappie . “ 700 pounds of trout with around

10 % trophy sized were released during our latest plant near the dam .,” reported Lee Lockhart of the Lake Amador Resort . “ There has been ; lots of action in the top 5 ’ from both boat and shore . Don ’ t forget the annual derby is underway and there ’ s still lots of tagged trout out there to catch .” The lake level is 23 ’ down and the surface water temperature is 55 degrees . The water clarity is 10 ’ and the oxygen level is 9.6 mg / L . Lake Camanche is also being planted with trout . The latest plant consisted of 1,000 pounds stocked in the South Pond , 1,000 pounds at the South Shore Ramp , and 1,000 pounds at the North Shore Ramp , a total of 3,000 pounds total .
