Embarking on a journey to fulfill a lifelong dream of bass fishing at the renowned Anglers Inn Resort on the stunning shores of Lake El Salto in Mexico was an adventure that exceeded all expectations . Accompanied by my seasoned fishing partner , Vince Harris , a regular visitor to this globally celebrated bass fishery , our dream began with a short flight from Sacramento to Mazatlan . Waiting for us was a sprinter van stocked with ice-cold Pacificos – a fitting prelude to the angling paradise awaiting us . The two-hour drive to Anglers Inn passed swiftly amid cultural scenery , anticipation to catch my first largemouth bass in Mexico , and engaging conversations with our knowledgeable English-speaking chauffeur . The stage was set for a week of excitement , exploration , and unforgettable experiences . Upon arrival , the warm welcome by the friendly Anglers Inn staff , who handed us margaritas the size of punch bowls , set the tone for an extraordinary stay . The resort , authentically decorated yet spotless too , offered breathtaking views of the lake from every corner . As we were escorted around , thoughts of the giant bass lurking in the warm waters fueled my excitement , echoing my Mexico bass fishing dreams . Our days began with hearty breakfasts fit for royalty , setting the foundation for our fishing expeditions . Down by the lake , our fishing guide ’ s enthusiasm matched ours as we embarked on daily adventures . The sunrise boat rides to our fishing spots became a ritual , and what unfolded during those early hours was nothing short of miraculous . Our guide took us to a hidden gem – that we named the Farallon Island , a 60 ’ by 250 ’ island teeming with giant largemouth bass , reminiscent of great white sharks hunting seals near the Farallons near San Francisco . Surprisingly , this newfound honey hole was just a five-minute boat ride from the resort , providing us with consistent five-bass limits , each weighing over 35 pounds . Our strategic

use of topwater lures and swim-baits proved highly effective during the short windows when the bass ventured off the deep ledges to ambush Tilapia that they had trapped in the shallows . Recognizing the pattern within the pattern , we realized we could replicate our success at various locations across the lake . Armed with a narrowed arsenal of Whopper Ploppers , S-Waivers , and Ish Monroe ’ s Phat Matt Daddy Frog , we explored the depths of Lake El Salto , unleashing a series of explosive strikes that left us in awe . As the competitive spirit kicked in , Vince and I set our sights on a 40-pound monster bag , ultimately achieving a dream limit of 45 pounds – a feat made even more exhilarating as we seemed to be the sole anglers discovering this hidden chance of a lifetime . Though we attempted to capture the excitement on film , the escalating size of our catches rendered our efforts futile , a testament to the raw power of Lake El Salto ’ s prized fighters .
