Amy Marlan wanted to get one last trip in before the end of the 2023 rockfish season so she booked a trip on The Flying Fish out of Port San Luis . On Amy ’ s previous trip she noticed that one of the anglers was using a large mackeral and getting several bites but the lingcod were not committing to it . Amy decided to bring some smaller mackeral on this trip and it immediately paid off . A monster lingcod immediately bit once her bait hit the bottom on the first stop of the day ! This was Amy ’ s personal best lingcod and tipped the scales at 25 + pounds . Amy posed with the fish for a few pictures and then put her bait down for the second time and then hooked and another hefty lingcod .

From fishing to hiking , the Pardee Recreation Area offers a plethora of activities to engage even the most active groups over a long weekend . With over 100 campsites featuring fire pits and picnic tables , the park is adorned with majestic oak trees providing ample shade . The park boasts two swimming pools , numerous day-use areas , boat rentals , fishing opportunities , and breathtaking hiking trails , making it an adventure-filled destination . Lake Del Valle , located 10 miles south of Livermore off Interstate 580 in the San Francisco East Bay area , is surrounded by over 5,000 acres of oak-covered hills . At an altitude of 745 feet , the lake stretches for 5 miles with 16 miles of shoreline . Del Valle Lake offers excellent fishing , with regular trout plants by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife from October through May . The East Bay Regional Park District supplements the fishing program , stocking trout from fall until spring and catfish in the summer . Various species such as Black Bass , Largemouth Bass , Smallmouth Bass ,

Striped Bass , Sturgeon , Salmon , Crappie , Bluegill , and panfish provide year-round fishing excitement . Rancho Seco Recreational Area , a 400-acre park brimming with recreational opportunities , is an ideal getaway for camping , boating , fishing , swimming , and wildlife viewing . The 160-acre lake is fed by the Folsom South Canal , offering year-round enjoyment just 25 miles from downtown Sacramento . Fishing enthusiasts can launch electric motor boats , rowboats , sailboats , kayaks , row boats , stand-up paddleboards , and electric-powered fishing boats , with windsurfers also welcome . The lake is a habitat for bass , bluegill , red-ear sunfish , crappie , and catfish , with Rainbow trout stocked from January through March . Fishing licenses , required and available at the lake office , grant access to fishing piers designed for those with disabilities , and the annual trout derby is a highly anticipated

San Pablo Reservoir Recreation Area , located off San Pablo Dam Road between Orinda and El Sobrante , offers thrilling outdoor activities like fishing , boating , picnicking , kayaking , and hiking . Recognized as one of the finest fisheries in the East Bay , the lake is regularly stocked with trout and catfish . Shadow Cliffs , situated just a mile from downtown Pleasanton on Stanley Boulevard , allows swimming , fishing , and non-motorized boats . This former gravel quarry turned 266-acre park features an 80-acre lake , parking , and picnic grounds . Outstanding trout fishing is experienced in the main lake during cool water months , while catfish and bass action heats up when temperatures rise .
