A Quiet Time On Sonoma County Coast

BODEGA BAY – There is not much fishing activity taking place on the Sonoma County Coat now . Surf fishermen are picking up perch on the beaches and rocks , while private boaters are catching some Dungeness crab in between storms . Rick Powers , captain of the New Sea Angler and owner of the Bodega Bay Sportfishing Center , reported superb rockfish and Dungeness crab fishing on his last trip of 2023 on December 31 . The

23 anglers aboard the new Sea Angler landed 250 rockfish and 250 Dungeness crab up to 2.5 pounds . “ Every person that has walked aboard my boat over the past three years on a combo trip has come back with their limit of 10 crab and 10 rockfish ,” said Powers . “ The fishing was phenomenal in 2023 . We hammered the giant rockfish , including vermilion , bocaccio , canary and yellowtail rockfish . The yellowtail averaged 3 to 5 pounds each ,” said Powers . BERKELEY- - Rockfish season ended on December 31 and skippers are now getting ready for San Francisco Bay halibut fishing starting in March . “ We ran our last trip of the season today ,” reported Captain
