COLLINS LAKE
“ FishHuntShoot ” Fishing . Cody , Kye and Reece caught a triplet of trout , the largest weighing in at 4.5 pounds , trolling slow with Powerbait . Fank & Marti caught a monstrous 7 3 / 4 pound Golden Rainbow “ Lightning ” trout while fishing near the marina using an Orange Kokanee Killer . Lightning struck more than once for Rick , Forrest and Cody of Rohnert Park , California . However , their largest fish was s beautiful 7 lb . rainbow gracing the center of the lineup . Dave Martinez of Cool , California reeled in his 10 pound Lightning Trout trolling around 15 ft . with a nightcrawler on a slow-death rig . Billy Ralls caught his 10 lb . lightning two days later drifting nightcrawlers out on the east side of the lake . So I guess whether you ’ re drifting or rolling , use a nightcrawler ! Gwen K hooked two lunkers on the far side using nightcrawlers too . Jaixen M started May off well with a 5 3 / 4 pound rainbow trout caught near campsite 284 at the south end of the campground . Zan , Anika , Brigham and Ben caught a ghostly beast of a Golden Rainbow Trout , yet another weighing in at 10 lbs ., fishing with a Bass Pro Shop “ Demon Dancer ” out on the east side . I think this may be the first time we ’ ve featured three 10 pound trout , all caught within a week ! Lots of big trout are still lurking out there but you might have to get off the shore head out to deeper water . If you ’ re catching & releasing bass , crappie , bluegill , redear or catfish , make sure to grab a picture and send in the details ! fishing @ collinslake . com

DAVIS LAKE
Bank Anglers , Trollers Bag Quality Rainbows
PORTOLA – Trout fishing is solid for both trollers and bank anglers at Lake Davis . “ Everybody is catching trout now – the bank anglers , boat fishermen and the fly fishermen ,” said Jeanne Graham at J & J ’ s Grizzly Store and Camping Resort . “ The shore anglers are doing best tossing out PowerBait and worms in Mallard Cove , while the boaters are finding the best action at 5 to 10 feet deep trolling copper / red Dick Nites and orange and copper Baby Simon lures . The fish average 16 to 22 inches .” The docks are now in at the Honker Cove , Lightning Tree and Old Camp Five boat ramps . “ Ed Dilllard of Dillard ’ s Guided Fishing reported trout success on his latest two trips . “ We landed 6 on Friday and 7 on Saturday ,” said Dillard . “ It took a bit to get the right set up Friday . The Jay Fair all around best fly started working at 8 feet . We had 9 hookups and landed 6 . On Saturday , the Tui Chub Arctic fox tube fly down 7 ft . produced 7 fish in 3 hours .” Davis Lake is holding 355,998 acre feet of water , 98 percent of capacity and 28 percent of average .

EAST BAY LAKES ROUNDUP
Trout In Mix For At Least A Couple More Plants
OAKLAND - There should be no doubt that this has been one of the best East Bay trout seasons in recent years . The East Bay Regional Parks District , and particularly Joe Sullivan , the fishery manager , have exceeded every expectation with over 59,000 pounds of trout planted since January including some massive lightning trout . The season has drawn to a close but has ended with some heavy gold ! There were some rough spots mid-season when East Bay action was not going as expected . Heavy weather pounded the region , the lakes were high and off color , and in some instances , sediment like we saw at Lake Del Valle threatened plants all together . Angling pressure was light and fish counts were low , but heavy plants , especially plants of lightning trout brought out even the most reluctant anglers . This year there wasn ’ t one district lake that didn ’ t produce a double-digit rainbow and most lakes produced several . We saw some big bows planted in the early season and while the lightning were not nearly as large , there were still some over 5 pounds . After the first of the year , we saw some exceptional fishing that lasted until the most recent plant this week .

Overall , Lake Del Valle produced dozens of fish over 5 pounds , a rainbow that broke 11-pounds , a lightning trout exceeding 11.04 pounds and at least a half dozen just over or just under the double-digit mark . Shadow Cliffs produced well above what had been expected . This lake has now fully recovered and received the attention that it deserves . Locals saw both bows and lightning to 10 pounds . Quarry Lakes saw some of the best early season action with solid limits from the beach , cove , and row . Lake Chabot presented anglers with mixed action . Water levels remained
