FRESHWATER REPORTS :
CONTINUED FROM PG 9
dam removal proceeds at its current pace , CDFW expects to release the fish directly from its Fall Creek Fish Hatchery into Fall Creek , which has been inaccessible to salmon due to its location behind the Iron Gate Dam . Dam removal , the transition to the state-of-the-art Fall Creek Fish Hatchery , increasing variability in hatchery releases at different salmon life stages to supplement in-river production and the strong relationships forged with tribal partners that have made these actions successful are all critical components of the California
Salmon Strategy for a Hotter , Drier Future released by Gov . Gavin Newsom in January 2024 .

LOS VAQUEROS RESERVOIR
Catfish Bite Heats Up With Recent Stoock Plants
LIVERMORE – Los Vaqueros Reservoir planted 1,000 pounds of catfish on June 24th . Anglers anticipate the catfish bite to heat up and some are reporting catching fish while fishing the South Cove with chicken liver and anchovies . Shore anglers continue to hook some striped bass while tossing out
anchovies in the South Cove and off the fishing pier near the marina . The keeper fish average 18 to 21 inches long but there have been reports of monster striped bass caught in the South Cove . The trout bite has been slow because of the summer heat . The water temperature at Los Vaqueros Reservoir is currently 70 degrees . The water level is 147,000 acrefeet . The water clarity has been good except for windy days Boating has been limited due to wind . Please call the marina and check the conditions before arriving so you can plan accordingly . RIO VISTA / WEST DELTA
Trollers Still Landing Stripers While Fishing Shallow and Deep
RIO VISTA – There are not many fishermen targeting striped bass on the delta but there are a few avid striper anglers that are and they are having good success . Mark Wilson , Delta Striped Bass Legend , reported landing 31 fish to 5lbs . That is a lot of action for June with about half of the fish they landed were keeper sized fish while the other half were shakers . He says , “ the wind has made the Sacramento River dirty so the best fishing has been on the San Joaquin River .” Mark has been trolling both shallow and deep and keeping his lure about 65-80ft behind the boat depending on the water depth . Mark also reports that lure color has not mattered much . Mark says , “ he is looking forward to next month because the last couple of years the month of July has produced some nice fish in the 8-15lb range .”
