LAKE TAHOE
and the mackinaw more finicky than normal this time of year . The best bite is before 6am when the fish are really active . Once the sun hits the lake , the bite slows down . If you are getting out mid-morning , I would suggest using minnows to trick these finicky mackinaw into biting . I ’ ve been trolling to cover more ground and there are times I ’ m going through a ton of fish that are not biting . Eventually , I ’ ll find a pod of fish that are and I ’ ll work
those fish before they disappear . The average size is 2-6lbs with some 1lbers in the mix . There are a lot of kokane spread out throughout the lake . I ’ ve seen big schools swimming through when I ’ m fishing for mackinaw . A lot of anglers will switch over to kokane when the mackinaw bite gets really tough and I ’ ve seen fish up to 12 ” being caught . The boat traffic on the lake is the lowest I have seen which makes the fishing better being that the fish aren ’ t getting pressured as much .
