Rockfish And Lingcod Bite is Hot

Rick Powers , Captain of the New Sea Angler , reported “ very good fishing ” for nearshore rockfish and big lingcod on the days the boats have been able to get out . There has been a lot of wind lately . From May 1 – Sept . 30 , anglers are restricted to a 20 fathom inshore only groundfish fishery , according to the CDFW . The 18 anglers aboard the New Sea Angler landed 180 rockfish and 3 lingcod up to 10 pounds on June 29 , while the 18 anglers aboard the boat brought in 180 rockfish and 8 lingcod to 12 pounds during the previous trip . “ We have had very productive fishing on our latest trips and plenty of room on the boat ,” said Powers . “ Anglers are catching limits of quality vermilion , brown , canary and other nearshore rockfish and a lingcod per rod . Anglers are hooking the fish while using shrimp flies , baited with squid strips , along with swimbaits and bars .”

Epic Striper And Halibut Fishing On The San Francisco Bay

SAN FRANCISCO – Anglers fishing the San Francisco Bay are putting great numbers of striped bass and halibut on the boat . On July 2nd the anglers aboard Lovely Martha Sportfishing had a day to remember . Captain Mike Rescino said , “ today we finished up with 3 fish a rod catching 19 halibut & 22 striped bass for our 13 anglers !” Captain James Smith of California Dawn Sportfishing has also had phenomenal days on the water . “ Halibut and bass fishing was “ full speed ” again today . Near limits of both for 21 anglers . The final count for the California Dawn was 35 halibut to 18 pounds and 38 striped bass to 12 pounds Captain Erik Anifson of the Bass Tub has also been having fantastic days on the bay . He said , “ absolutely wide-open fishing today we had limits of bass and halibut .

Anglers Enjoy Great Rockfish Bite

EL GRANADA – The Queen of Hearts out of Half Moon Bay has been seeing some great rockfish action . On a recent trip they finished the day with 121 rockfish , 9 cabezon and 1 lingcod . Then on the following day they reported catching 170 rockfish and 7 lingcod to 10 pounds . Anglers are using a variety of baits to tempt these rockfish . Some of the most productive baits include shrimp flies , jigs , bars and even swimbaits . From May 1 – Sept . 30 , anglers are restricted to a 20 fathom inshore only fishery , according to the CDFW .

MONTEREY BAY

Anglers Are Hooking Limits Of Nearshore Rockfish Along With A Scattering Of Lingcod

Shallow water reefs along the Monterey and Santa Cruz county coastline are producing good results . The groundfish season is restricted to a 20 fathoms and less inshore fishery from May 1 to September 30 . The Caroline returned to the dock with limits . of rockfish ( 180 ) and 2 lingcod on Sunday , June 30 , reported Chris ’ Fishing Trips . The Checkmate came back with limits of rockfish the last several days of June . The fishing has been excellent . Anglers are hooking a mixture of olive , yellow , blue , black , vermilion and gopher rockfish . Fishermen are using a mixture of shrimp flies , bars , jigs and cut baits to entice the bottomfish .
