Anglers Expect Cooler Temperatures To Turn On Trout

Angles Camp - Trollers are currently experiencing a tough trout but the quality of the fish is great with most fish are weighing in at 2-5lb range . Monte Smith of Gold Country Sportfishing says , “ there is a lot of bait in the lake so it ’ s hard to compete . The trout are scattered but when you catch one it is a beautiful fish .” “ The fish are deep in the 60-90ft range .” Smith says . “ rolling shad may be a great option with so much bait in the water .” He expects the trout bite to take off once the lake cools off . A few kokanee are being caught that are in nice shape but not a lot of people are fishing for them because they are getting ready to spawn .

Fantastic Summer Striper Fishing

Yuba City – Most anglers believe that the best striped bass fishing on the Sacramento and Feather Rivers happen in the spring during the spawn . However , Raith Heryford , RH Guide Service , says , “ you have to put the time in to find the fish but the fish are there . They are fresh from the ocean and the numbers are here .” Heryford says , “ striped bass fishing in the summer is different ompared to the spring . In the spring , live bait is the bait of choice for most anglers but during the summer artificial baits are the ticket .” “ Jerkbaits , are the best baits during the day , topwater and glide baits in early morning and late afternoon . During the night trolling bigger lures like Yozuri ’ s , Bombers , and Rapalas work best . Raith biggest fish of the summer measured in around 47 inches and he guesses it weighed in around the mid 30lb class .

SHASTA LAKE

Trollers Landing Trout Limits

SHASTA – Shasta Lake is cooling down and it ’ s around 76 degrees in the morning and 58 ’ to crest . Trout fishing is going pretty good with the best bite window between 7am and 9am . The bite typically slows down after 9am and we manage to catch a fish here and there . The second bite window begins around lunchtime , and we are finding these fish around 70 ’ deep . White spoons seem to be the best color but it doesn ’ t seem to matter on most days . In fact , I ’ ve been prospecting with different colors and they all get fish , some are just catching more than others . We have been having trolling 2.3-2.4 mph on the main body of the lake and having a lot of success with many double hook-ips and multiple limits of fish . We are still getting double hookups and multiple limits . On some days , we are catching a lot of bass first thing in the morning . At times , we are also catching a lot of brown trout as well . Cooler weather is in the forecast and the bite will certainly change but hopefully the bite continues to be good for another month or so .

Lake Tahoe – `With high winds and coolers temperatures , Lake Tahoe ’ s water temp has come down almost 8 degrees and the mackinaw have responded well to this . We have seen a better bite throughout the day with fish averaging 3-6lbs . I ’ ve seen a lot of mysis shrimp in their stomachs which gives
